Doesn't work with Windows 11

For the record, the software works in that it starts, lets me look at cool desktops, download said cool desktops, modify said cool desktops, and apply said cool desktops. However, as soon as I switch to another virtual desktop (Winkey+Tab or Ctrl+Winkey+left or right cursor key), the desktop background crashes and/or disappears. It doesn't stick. It never has. I posted about this last year, but there was no fix. I downloaded the software again a few minutes ago. It still doesn't work. The screen capture below shows my current version of Windows.

I would love to have this work, especially since I did pay for a license.

Thanks.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. May I know which version of Deskscapes you have installed?

Thanks

It seem, I can not recreate your issue on my system. Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

Thank you,

I have tried the full purge, as directed, along with a full reinstall, but the result is the same. I can summon a background, apply it, but as soon as I switch virtual desktops, Deskscape crashes (I assume) and the background returns to the Windows background.

Did you set a different Windows wallpaper on each virtual desktop?

I usually do.  Okay, I just tried changing the backgrounds on all five of my virtual desktops, fired up Deskscapes on one, changed the background, told it to use all monitors, and it still died as soon as I switched from the Deskscape virtual desktop to another. Here's what it looks like when I start Deskscapes on desktop 1.

Now, I switched to desktop 2 and this is the result.

Thats the issue.  The OS is swapping the wallpaper on a switch which will turn off DeskScapes as it believes you have changed the wallpaper yourself so it should stop.

Okay, so how do I get it to "stick"? :-)

As I mentioned at the opening, I would love for this to work.

Is there any fix for this, if not I want my money back

@joeshades, I guess that means I'm not the only one having this issue. Good to know!

This app is useless if it does not work when switching desktops

I believe it work when switching desktop, just that it can't work if you initially set your virtual desktops to different wallpapers. What you can do is try this. Remove all your virtual desktop. Recreate your virtual desktop again. Without changing those virtual desktop wallpaper. Turn on Deskscapes, apply deskscapes dreams. Change desktop and see if the dreams still play on your other Virtual desktops. The only thing, I think Deskscape can not do, is playing different dreams for each virtual desktop.

Tried going back to the windows pictures by stopping deskscapes, which by the way is huge pain, have to stop the deskscapes service, when I did that and started deskscapes again , same problem. Not a big issue if I choose to always use Deskscapes but If choose to stop it, that is an issue

How do you stop Deskscapes? Deskscapes will automatically stop/disable, if you apply a wallpaper via Windows setting. But, yes to Apply Deskscapes again, you will need to go through the steps. One thing you can do it mark those dreams you often use as favorites, that should cut down few clicks.

Used task manager to stop it, This needs to interact with desktops better and there needs to be an easier way to stop deskscapes, buts since restarted it no longer appears in task manager, so now the only way to stop it is to log off, sign back in, then if I want to stop it have to go to task manger again. I am forced to use this all the time, there is no simple way to go back windows background or another program. Deskscapes even when stopped over rides everything else, the latest picture from deskscapes remains on the desktop, can not apply any other picture

Why do you need to use Task manager to stop it? Just apply a wallpaper via the Personalisation->Background->Pick a picture-> That will auto stop Deskscapes.

No that didn't work, it keeps the last picture from Deskscapes. also trying to restart deskscapes but goes back to doing the same thing when switching desktops!!, please is there just a simple way to start and stop the program and make it keep working when switching desktops? the answer seems to be no.

FWIW I've been having this problem (fresh install as of yesterday). Applying a new "theme" across all virtual desktops seems to have worked around the bug of resetting the background whenever switching virtual desktops, which is fine. But the virtual desktop toolbar tool shows the theme background on each virtual desktop. I can live with this for now.

It seems to be a problem across the Cosmos, many others are having the same problem. Theres been a change in Windows or Stardock as they are not playing well together. The application wont boot to screens but is still running in the services.

Given the activity here, I think that Stardock needs to come up with a way to make this work seamless or give people their money back. Virtual desktops are a thing and people aren't going to jump through hoops to try to make their desktop environment stick. They expect the product to work. Either it does, or it doesn't. Workarounds are fine if I'm happy to experiment and not being charged. I'm sure that, like everyone else here, I'm happy to pay for Deskscapes if it actually works. Right now, it's a bust, and many of us have already jumped through numerous hoops in hope of a solution.
