Lag closing Task Manager when Autohide Taskbar is enabled (W10)

I will report this bug once again here because it is literally driving me nuts. I use the task manager all the time because my profession is to benchmark stuff. I need to use it but the 1 second lag closing it is really getting into my nerves.

How to reproduce this:

  • Windows 10 (also happens on W11)
  • Enable Hide Taskbar in Desktop
  • Ctrl+shift+ESC  Open the Task Manager
  • Close it by pressing ESC key or X button.
  • There appears to be a 1.2 seconds lag

If I have to suspect I would say this is related to the "autohide" animation playing on the background again and taking those 1.2 seconds to render.  The taskbar seems to be bound to the Task Manager somehow.

Solution to this is to disable autohide the TaskBar.

Problem is, for people that use OLED screens, this is a must, otherwise you will have risk of permanent burn-in.

 

Kindly reply back if this can be solved.  It's the only issue this awesome program has for me right now.

After unloading Start11 using "Start10tweak" there is still a slight delay in closing Task Manager, however it is not as long of a delay as with Start11 enabled. I can see how this might get annoying if you are opening and closing the Task Manager multiple times during the day. Will simply minimizing the Task Manager screw up your benchmark testing process?

Tested on Windows 10 build 19045.2194, Start11 ver. 1.31

That's not how it works on my end.  I have a Corsair K100 keyboard and I've attached task manager quick launch to one of the G keys for quickly access.   Minimizing will defeat the purpose.  I need to be able to quickly open it and close it at will.  Closing it with the ESC key is so easy, it doesn't even require using the mouse.

What do you mean by "unloading Start11 using "Start10tweak" ?

Not sure I understand "Minimizing will defeat the purpose." You could assign a keyboard shortcut to a key on your keyboard to minimize the active window on the desktop.

Windows key + Down Arrow = Minimize the active desktop window.

To then open Task Manager on the desktop again, use the keyboard shortcut: Windows Key + Number or Count of the Task Manager icon from the Start button on the Taskbar. For example; if Task Manager is the 4th icon to the right of the Start button, press Windows key + 4, and that will open Task Manager window on the desktop.

If Task Manager is minimized to the taskbar and you press the key you assigned to quick launch Task Manager, does it open another instance of Task Manager, or just open the existing Task Manager session? If it just opens the existing Task Manager session, then you can use that key to open the Task Manager window on the desktop.

So, you could assign shortcuts to two keys on your keyboard; one to open Task Manager, and one to minimize Task Manager.

I'm really not trying to be a jerk. I'm just trying to suggest alternatives to mitigate your issue until if and when this issue is resolved in an update to Start11 or Windows 10.

 

Start10tweak is a Stardock utility located at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start11."

Ah yes. I can see what you mean.

Unloading with that tool and now my Task Manager closes immediately.  In my case there is 0 lag without this.   They need to fix this because it makes the whole program look bad for no reason.  It shouldn't be too complicated to fix.

I don't want to change my whole work routine because a program is not doing things properly.  If this is not fixed I will be forced to uninstall Start11 because I value my work more than some nice aesthetics on my Start Menu.

The way I use the Task Manager is always closing it with ESC.   We shouldn't have to create tricks to minimize it because the program is introducing extra latency for no reason although I do get your point and thank you for trying to help.
