Start11 Network Search

Good day, I recently bought 2x 5 pack licenses of Start11 software. I’ve chosen this one becase it was the only way I found on the market to actually use start search functionality for network redirected folder.

Actually, in my network I have Windows Domain with folder redirection deployed for user’s documents, via group policy, and Start11 was able, until v1.25, to find files that are actually placed on a network share (Windows doesn’t support this directly).

I was using the \\<ip>\share path to redirect document folder, and everything was fine: when user pressed start key, it was possible to type-in file name and see results in realtime in the Start11 window. Now, starting with 1.3, it seems to be impossible (nothing found on network shares).

I tried to reindex files, locally on Windows client, and on Windows server with indexing service that hosts the network share, without luck.

Is something changed in the code? What should be the correct method to re-implement this funcionality?

In “Recent documents” windows of the Start11 main screen, last opened files are visible.

Thank you

Andrea

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

I was using the \\\share path
End of quote

What if you actually mapped that to a virtual drive letter (P: for example), does it then work?

Actually folder redirection with mapped drives is deprecated from Microsoft.

Folder redirection should use unc path. In my scenario, I found that using ip rather than username worked better, until 1.25 version.

Is there a way to manually edit where start11 actually searches for files (registry??)
