Start11 1.30 Release Changelog

  • Versioned to 1.3
  • Fixed an issue with the WinKey fix for insider releases not working right if you wanted it to open the OS menu not S11 always
  • Fixed the issue with not pinning to the start menu when using Pin to Start on desktop shortcuts

Prior Beta Changelogs (post 1.25 release)

Start11 1.28 Beta

  1. Winkey to open the start menu is restored on Insider builds
  2. Toggling hide caption on an icon no longer jumps back to the first page
  3. Right-clicking to the left of the start button when using the enhanced taskbar in center mode will now show the right-click menu correctly on the primary monitor
  4. Config UI detects insider build with new taskbar and indicates which features do not work with that
  5. Config UI detects Win11 22H2+ and indicates top align taskbars do not work with autohide enabled
  6. Small timing tweak for center taskbar on Win11 with enhanced taskbar turned on for Insider builds
  7. Fix for the right-click start button menu not painting right
  8. Fix for the background of the taskbar having a color when the WB skin didn't define one
  9. Fix for the position of the mini search popup and virtual desktops screen
  10. Fix for the position of the native Win11 start menu all when having center taskbar with the enhanced taskbar enabled.

Start11 1.27 Beta

  • Version 1.26 was updated to fix a pinning issue, version was updated as a result.

Start11 1.26 Beta

  1. NEW (experimental): Users can now center the Start11 button when using the Start11 Enhanced Taskbar. This supports custom start buttons too.
  2. New - You can now rename shortcuts on the Win10/11 style start menus via the right-click menu
  3. Fixed issue with restart computer when other users are logged in not working correctly after the warning message.
  4. Fixed alignment of the new centered start button option to take into account the extra width of the bar
  5. Fixed issue with taskbar being sluggish when file copies were taking place when enhanced taskbar was enabled.
  6. Added new localization strings for 1.26 for new UI changes

  10. Fixed issue with only 1 sysicon causing a scrolling arrow to show sometimes
  11. Changed Start11 to open the menu on the primary monitor when opened via the Winkey rather than the monitor the mouse is on. If anyone wishes to use the old behavior you can do so by defining "OldWinKeyLogic" as a string value here HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Start8\Start8.ini\Start8 and giving it a value of "1"
  12. Fixed issue with keyboard not opening groups on the menu correctly when enter is pressed. Pressing space now also toggles them.

  19. Resolved issue with erroneous rapid clicking on the start button resulting in the menu not being visible but then animating out next time you click.
  20. Fixed an issue on Windows 11 native start icon where it would not consistently register clicks, they would appear pent up and flash a bunch in a row.
  21. Resolved flicker issue when opening the start menu on Win11 insider builds when animations are disabled
  22. A code change to potentially resolve an issue with universal app icons loading as solid black in edge cases
  23. Change to init of taskbar code to possibly help with wrong icons loading from the icon cache for pinned items

  29. Taskbar shifting down 12 or so pixels (at 100% scaling) hopefully resolved
  30. Taskbar shifting along the screen for some users on occasion hopefully resolved
  31. Fixed issue with not showing Search/Task view / Widgets / Chat sometimes when toggled on from an off state

Known issues

While we appreciate all feedback, please remember that we offer no official support for beta \ preview \ developer channel versions of Windows. If you report issues while in any of those early release channels, you should not expect them to be addressed unless it still exists in a retail version of Windows.

  • Initially hovering over the taskbar search may have the preview thumbnail render offset.  Subsequent hovers will render it in the correct location:

  • For some PCs on both Win10 and 11, the native Windows start menu will show 'sleep' where the Start11 one might not (again, not the case with all installs).  This will be addressed in a future update.

Two issues remain

1. Right click on the left side of the start button fails on secondary monitors

2. Peek preview positions to the far left on secondary monitors

In the email I got regarding the 1.3 release the very first feature states: "Replace your Start menu icon when centered", I installed it from my Object Desktop installer and went to the Start  Button section in the Start11 options only to be greeted to a disabled custom start button image selector with a message in red stating "Only supported when start button is on the left of the taskbar in Windows 11." So were you lying in the email?

If I had not got it through my Object Desktop subscription and had paid for it based on that feature I could legally claim you misadvertised it.

Have you enabled the enhanced taskbar options in start11?

That is only an option if you have let Start11 control the taskbar.

I'd been waiting for v1.3 because I saw that the shifting taskbar icons when displaying seconds in the clock had been addressed in the betas.  But after updating, I don't see that the problem has changed at all.  Did the fix not make it into the release version?

Uninstall, reboot, reinstall 1.3 as it sounds like everything did not get updated fully.

Hi,

When I allow Start11 to control the taskbar, and I centre the customized start button, the previews of the open apps appear as though Windows "thinks" the taskbar is aligned left (see screen shot). Obviously, this is not functionally useful.

Cheers,

Mark

Nope, still doing it after uninstalling, rebooting and a reinstall.

I'm also still having this problem.  I've verified that my Start11 is version 1.3, and I rebooted.

All,

Thanks for the feedback thus far but we want to remind everyone that we cannot support issues found with beta \ insider builds of Windows.  The extremely fluid nature of such builds makes reacting to them neither wise nor prudent use of time and resources.

Thanks.

My windows 11 is also not beta or insider build.  I'm running Windows 11 Home, version 21H2.  I know Start11 is in beta, I thought we were providing feedback about functions not working as described for this beta?

Turns out the application hadn't been updated . . . Even though I began the installation process, but it must have failed?

Anyway, it's working now that it has actually been updated. :)

Can you fix the search menu from opening at the bottom when the taskbar is positioned at the top?

Also the widgets icon should be positioned at the left of the taskbar which is the default behavior, but when selecting the option to enhance the taskbar it moves it to the middle?

The widgets position is normal due to how things work.

Please add support to pin shortcuts for Windows 10 OneNote pages, as windows does it.

Now it's possible only manually with 5 steps instead of 1.

1) copy link to notebook section,

2) past it in text editor,

3) copy part that starts with "onenote:",

4) past it in new shortcut,

5) pin that shortcut to Start11.

Wrong! It is literally supposed to be on the left side with the expanded view where it says "clear" as part of the weather, before even using Start11 i used the registry tweak to have the taskbar at the top and Windows 11 by default has the widget on the left when using centered icons! It is only when you enable "enhance the taskbar" in Start11 that the widgets icon goes to the center!

No you misunderstand me.

As I said due to how things work.  As in how start11 has to work to provide the enhanced taskbar options.

The widget will be on the left with start11 when you do not enable the enhanced taskbar.
