Fences3 disabled

Fences not starting because Explorer was not closed properly

I think there was Win 10 update and then Fences would not start "because Explorer was not closed properly" and Fences are disabled. I cannot enable them.

I tied uninstalling, reinstalling, but uninstall fails because of this and I cannot delete the file manually:

Thanks.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try purge and reinstall steps as mentioned here: [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

Thank you. This seems to have worked. Fences installed and I could quickly create one fence, will see how it goes. Of course, all of my previous Fence configuration work is lost. Is there a way to save and have a backup copy of Fence config file, so if this happens again, I can retrieve my configuration easily, instead of redoing everything?

Thanks.

I believe it is best to move on to Fences 4 if you still on Fences 3.

Yes, there is, you can refer to screenshot below from: Stardock Fences 4: Automatically organize your desktop apps, files, and folders on Windows 10 and 11

Note : There is a 30 days free trial if you wish to see your issue goes away with Fences 4.
