ObjectDock Misery

500 points to anyone who can help me with any of these ObjectDock 0.99a related problems:

1) "Left-click-and-hold" on folder or drive icons no longer shows a pop-up directory listing. Worked about a week ago, now no more.

2) Right-clicking on the recycle bin does not bring up options to explore it or to empty it - the only option is "Dock item properties." This has never worked for me in any version of OD.

3) The (really great!) XML Weather docklet has worked perfectly for me up until the very last time I rebooted. Now, all I get is the default icon, with a period for the title and "-2" for the temp no matter how I configure it.

4) Sometimes, single-clicking on dock icons does not work, and I have to double-click to get them to respond. This is a recent happening - prior to a few days ago single-clicks always worked.

Now, I know that you may be thinking that this might have something to do with other software that I've installed or uninstalled recently - but that isn't the case. Also, I've completely uninstalled OD and reinstalled it, but it still doesn't behave.

Now, I have 32 icons on my dock if there's some sort of problem with the number of items that you can have before trouble starts. Also, I have the dock set to auto-hide, as well as hide the XP taskbar. Position is bottom of screen/always on top; magnification is narrow; attention is set to glow; docklets are [volume, ical, clock(by Haitham Al-Beik), recycle bin, and Judge's weather].

Please help!

Thanks, ChinaCat - I love OD, so I guess I'll have to put up with these annoyances if I'm to be a loyal fan. But, there must be some OD "power users" out there who can help us?!?!

1 has never worked for me.

2 works fine for me. Did you make the shorcut by dragging the recycle bin onto the dock, or did you make it by "Create New Recycle Bin"?

3 I havent tried in awhile.

4 is giving me issues too.

I'm no help on this one either

hrmph...I've never had any of those problems..except for issues with the weather docklet up until the release of the XML docklet. I wonder if your comp has caught a cold...or maybe you could use a defrag?

@Çërêb®øJÐ - I made the recycle bin by using the "Create New Recycle Bin" option. I'll try the drag-n-drop method.
@horiz0n - Thanks anyway.
@digital_trucker - That's about the 10th time someone has suggested that I defrag. I suppose it's about time that I do. I'll do a complete virus scan also.

Man, oh, man...

You can set up XP to defrag and you can set up the virus scanner to both do there work while you are sleeping. I use the system maintance thing to schedule a defrag every saturday night when I am sleeping.

OD can get a little twitchy at times but I''m lost withoutit.I'm tempted to install it as a ram-drive program so it dosnt have to retrieve info from the HD.I've experienced the click prob, icons getting stuck to the cursor and getting dragged off the dock, jerky zooming, lagging animations, but hopefully they will continue to refine it.I know its an unsupported app but I think its a great advertisement for stardock.More people ask me about it than WB's.Wish they had spent the time developing a boot screen program to refine OD instead.Much more productive.

I never experienced all those problems you are talking about

The only thing this release suffers from is the buggy SDK/API and when switching graphical modes the dock no longer works.

Still, it is the coolest program around

OK, well I'll set up the defrag and virus checker tonight. In the meantime I was able to do the following:
- got the drive/folder icon dir listing to work by installing the previous build and using ctrl+left-click and sometimes left-click-and-hold
- got the context menu for the recycle bin to work by dragging the bin from the desktop to the dock - HOWEVER, I noticed that if I then hide the bin icon from the desktop, the context menu for it on the dock no longer works; anyone see this happen too?
- the XML weather docklet is now working again; QUESTION - how often does it update and is there a way to change that schedule?

@AndreasV - I see what you mean; everytime I log off or switch users then come back, the dock is dead
@I.R. Brainiac - how do you set up OD in a ram drive? I've never done this before.
