All files on desktop have disappeared

Hi,

Today, all the files in my desktop have disappeared. I tried to find one, a pdf, using Quick Search ((Glarysoft). The program showed the presence of the file on my desktop, but just for a little while. When I clicked on the file, it just disappeared.

I would be grateful if somebody could provide some help. Fortunately I had backed up the files, but does this mean I can no longer store files in my desktop?

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Do you see all the files if you view Desktop folder via your File explorer?

Thanks

Hello Basj,

Thank you for responding.

No. Not a trace.

I forgot to mention that documents too disappeared.

Do you have OneDrive Desktop Sync Enable? OneDrive Desktop Sync will move all your files in your Desktop folder into OneDrive folder. You will need to disable OneDrive Desktop Sync, move back all those files to Desktop folders. Than do your Fences layout snapshot restore.

I have OneDrive but it is not synchronizing my desktop and the files are not there.

Than something else is deleting/moving those files from your desktop folders. Fences don't delete of move files by itself.

Only folders and icons are spared... This is why I have thought of Fences...as I use it always to "clean" my desktop. The files and documents are not in my Recycle Bin, either.

I have seen another thread with the same issue, but it has no conclusion. That is why I started this one.

It can be a lot of other things. Have you try Windows System restore? Try restoring to earlier restore point.

Yes, I understand. I have not tried system restore. I back up my files.
I will monitor the desktop closely.

Thank you for your help, Basj.

All the best.
