Fence width changes slightly results in scroll bars in fences

resizing fences results in ui issues

I notice that occasionally after playing a game my fences, which I have four of are set to roll up to the top of my 2560x1440 monitor. After exiting a game (It happens with pretty much any game) one or more of my fences will change width by one or two pixels, just enough to make the icons need to wrap differently, I size and arrange my fences to have perfect rectangles of icons grouped by types, single player games, multi-player games, utilities, and system icons. I then need to nudge the effected fences a pixel wider and slide it one or two pixels to the left or right to properly arrange the fences again. Anyone else see this behavior and find a link to anything? I suspect it may be related to resolution changes when entering/exiting some games but am not 100% sure.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need some information on your system.

  1. Windows 7,8,10 or 11? Also please include its full version numbers please. Use Winver.exe to get those.
  2. Fences versions.
  3. Post a video capture of this so we can understand it better.

Thanks

Windows 11, Fences Version 4 and I also use Start 11 version 1.24 if that matters.

It is not happening currently and is intermittent if it does happen, I will capture images. But it literally is just the fence window narrows by a few pixels and makes the icons one horizontal column narrower making a scroll bar appear in the fence as the icons now extend another vertical row or two.

From what I can see I am on the latest release that is not still in beta testing. I can certainly do that if it really is needed, I hesitate to install any beta on my PC, I do work on this PC and generally keep to non-beta software. I cannot find any release notes for Beta 4 release, but from the issues list in forums it is not wise to upgrade yet. Is there something in release notes that leads you to think my issue will be resolved, this issue has been happening for a while now, I just got a mail from the forum because another post I chimed in on updated and decided to ask as it had recently happened again. The issue is a pain, but small and has been around for years.

I understand how to do it, I am saying, is there a release notes somewhere I can review, Beta software is not something I like to install, especially on my primary work PC, it just seems unwise security wise. I read the issues reports in the forums and it seems there are numerous issues introduced and I want to be able to review what was actually fixed before I apply a dubious beta quality update.

I see nothing that talks about windows resizing without user input, I will wait for it to happen again and attach a capture, but I have no faith that the beta fixes my problem, I think it will need to be looked at to figure out what is actually wrong.

I will try but it has survived reboots in the past, the only fix is to adjust the width and then nudge the actual window back where it was as it seems the location slightly moves as well just 1 or 2 pixels, it is literally like Fences goes from thinking the windows is 400 pixels wide to 398 or so and the location is nudged a bit left or right. I mean the size difference is tiny but just enough to make the window only support say 5 icons wide instead of 6. Original size makes no difference, I have fences set to collapse to top of screen, four in total, one a single icon wide, one 2 icons wide, one 5 icons wide and one 6 icons wide, the slight resize has at one point or another affected each of them, and it does seem to not be consistent, in other words, the 5 icon wide one will change but not the others, or the 6 and 2 will but not the 5 and 1, etc.

This all seems most apparent when I run an older game that say changes my resolution from 2560x1440 to say 1920 x 1080 or some other lower resolution. I think it has something to do with that but again it is not every time, and it is not like I track every time I play a game at an odd resolution.
