Start 11 - hovering over taskbar icon shows the popup for the icon next to it

hovering over taskbar icon shows the popup for the icon next to it

When I hover over taskbar icons, they frequently show the popup for the task adjacent to it. it is very frustrating.

An example of hovering over Chrome and having Outlook Inbox popup:

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know full versions for of your Windows 11. Is this a Beta/Preview release of Windows 11?

Thanks

Also what shows when you right click on the app taskbar button when this issue is happening?

The right app or the wrong one too?

I notice you seem to have your taskbar buttons in combine mode.  Is the taskbar full which is why it is in this mode or do you have it set to always combine mode always?

The issue is gone at the moment but returns often enough and I know no trigger

Two laptops side by side running Windows 11 Pro 21H2 OS build 22000.778 Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22000.778.0 - one has the problem and the other does not. The one with the problem has two external monitors and the laptop closed. Every time I boot I have to raise and lower the laptop lid to get the phantom screen between the two monitors to disappear. The laptop without the taskbar problem has a single external monitor with the laptop lid closed. Start 11 v1.24. The taskbar is not half full and I set it to combine always:

Seeing the same behavior.  Windows 11 version 21H2 build 22000.778, Start11 v1.24.

Seems to get worse the more apps that are open.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

Are any of you using other monitor management software like DisplayFusion? If so and you disable it, does it still reproduce?

If any \ all of you perform a clean boot, can you still reproduce it?

I'm having similar issues as above.  Hovering over taskbar icons results in a random (wrong) app name being displayed.  Very annoying.  Restarting Explorer fixes it but only temporarily.  Is this a known bug?

Please try, uninstall, reboot immediately after. Reinstall Start11 latest version. Retest and report back.

Basj - unfortunately it worked fine for about a day but the problem has returned.  Hovering the mouse over taskbar icons shows incorrect app descriptions/previews.  In limited cases it may have even opened the wrong app, e.g., when I clicked on the Outlook icon I recall it opened Excel, although that only happened once or twice.

The issue seems to happen more frequently and more immediately if I plug the laptop into a dock with dual external monitors.

Do you have any other solutions to this issue?  Thank you.

This happen on a screen refresh, a reboot will make it go a way and it will return any time the screen is refreshed or monitor is turned off and back on also. It really makes it hard to use the app. I am a reseller and Tier 3 service tech and we are going to drop the software at my shop because it has been know over a year and not been addressed.

I am reviewer for us to retail and our service policy does not allow use but Beta software on Clients Computer. We do not do Beta test for company for free, but we do paid review and trouble shootings. We stand behind what we sell and put a broke piece of software  on a computer that we have will give away $110.00 of free support for broke or beta software will bite you in backside every time and every few months here on out. It will be cheaper to teach the person how to use Windows 11

We regret to learn of your difficulties. You must be aware of the entire versions of your Windows 11. Is this a Windows 11 beta or preview release?

What else appears when you right-click the app taskbar button when this problem occurs?

The correct app, or also the incorrect one?

I note that your taskbar buttons appear to be in combine mode. Is the taskbar in this mode because it is full, or is it always set to combine mode?

Use any other display management programs except DisplayFusion? If so, does it continue to reproduce if you disable it? Search for websites discussing the topic using Google, or

Given Start11 was released under a year ago and taskbar support was released initially in March in beta that would be somewhat unexpected :)

We were able to reproduce an issue caused by elevated apps sometimes causing the wrong popup to show, but this is addressed in 1.26.

So far we have not been able to reproduce any issue with the wrong popup showing after screen changes.

Are you able to provide any additional information such as what you mean by any time the screen is refreshed?  Also does screen scaling get adjusted or primary monitor being changed?

We would love to be able to resolve this for you, but as it isn't something we can readily reproduce we need some help from those who have the problem.

It is also worth noting that we have become aware of a lot of people do not read the messages that popup during first install of Start11 and then set the taskbar to enable the enhanced Start11 features only to then set it to combine mode.  If you are using combine mode you probably do not want to enable the enhanced Start11 features of the taskbar given the main one is the uncombine option.

Because of this we have stopped prompting users about the feature and leave it up to users to enable if they wish.  Without that on you certainly will not have this problem (or if you do it isn't us)
