Start 10 and 11 Crashes of Internet Explorer Fixed! (Almost)

Presently on Start11 v1.2 - but this happened in the beta too.

The crash problem has been occurring for the last three or four months. It started after one of the prior Windows updates. And, I was never sure whether the problem was Fences or Start 10\11. It was triggered both randomly and especially when a 'check for updates' request was sent through settings. In fact, any time that settings was opened, a crash was imminent. Explorer would crash and then it was a crap shoot as to whether I could "enable Fences" again. Most of the time, a re-boot was necessary to restore function.

The fix (for me) turned out to be shutting off "Use Start11 search in the Start11 start menu" option.

Note: I am also running the 'Listary' app in the background.

Fingers are corssed, but in the last two hours of running and trying to crash the Explorer, all has been well.

And I spoke too soon. I was able to get the crash again by playing around in settings - in this case, altering the 'visual performance' menu did it. Display Adapter is an NVidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. Dell Optiplex 8940.

I have always wondered if this issue had something to do with the display adapter, even though you wouldn't think there would be a connection.

But once again, the crash was replicated by working within settings.

And today Internet Explorer crashed right away. It was fine most of yesterday, then today, it was almost like a buffer overflowed. So the issue may very well still be the 'Fences crashing' problem

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, the issue is Internet Explorer crashes or Explorer.exe crashed? If you are actually talking about internet Explorer. Does using other browser like Firefox,Chrome or Edge crash too?

Thanks

Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

The same issue is present. I am keeping Start 11 off the computer for the foreseeable future. Fences is too important a utility for me as I use it throughout the day. I cant have it crashing all of the time.

Hope you all can fix this as I am not the only one with the issue.
