Start11 makes system tray invisible

starting with win11 build 22581

I participate in the Windows Insider Program, in the Beta channel.  Starting with Build 22581 and continuing in Build 22593, Start11 causes the System Tray to become invisible.  After uninstalling Start11 the System Tray appears and behaves normally.

Unless there's a fix for this, the next Windows 11 release promises to cause considerable disruption for Start11 users.

This was resolved some time ago actually in betas of Start11 and the 1.2 update was released yesterday as a release version.

If you update to that you should be fine.  That said we officially do not offer support for beta/dev channel versions of Windows 11 for obvious reasons.

I understand that (and why) you do not support beta/dev releases of Windows 11.  I was just letting you know of a problem on the horizon.

Actually, it is not a problem on the horizon with Windows 11.  It appears that the problem lies with Start 11 itself, in the Taskbar enhancement feature.  I reinstalled 1.11 -- all worked fine.  I then accepted the  upgrade to 1.2 -- all worked fine.  I then said yes to letting Start 11 enhance the taskbar -- this broke the system tray display.  I turned off taskbar enhancement -- the system tray was back, both before and after I clicked the "Restart explorer" button.  (However, the message in red, "you would need to restart explorer after turning this off" remains on the Start 11 Taskbar configuration page.)  Hope this helps.

That is odd as the issue is resolved and enabling the enhanced taskbar shouldn't make a difference.  The issue existed with or without that and turning that off should do nothing without a restart of explorer.

We have a large number of people who were testing the beta updates of Start11 both on dev and beta channels and had a 100% success rate of the issue being resolved so the most likely explanation is a file replacement issue.

I would uninstall Start11, reboot and then install 1.2 directly (do not install 1.11 and then update) as it sounds like something has not been installed correctly, possibly resulting in half of it being 1.2 and the other half being 1.11.

Well ... following your suggestion I uninstalled Start11, rebooted, and then installed a freshly downloaded (via My Account : Downloads) copy of v. 1.2.  Clicking the About tab in configuration confirms that it is v.1.2.

When installation was complete, the System Tray appeared as normal.  When I clicked yes to the prompt asking if I wanted to let Start11 enhance the taskbar, the System Tray disappeared.  When I turned off Taskbar Enhancement, the System Tray came back.

Please let me know if I can provide any additional info that will help.

It came back instantly or after an explorer restart?

That is a curious issue as thats the first case we have encountered.

A few questions :

1) How many monitors do you have

2) Do you have anything else running which might impact the taskbar?

3) What scaling factor is your screen set to?

4) Is this a touch aware device?

Came back after explorer restart.

1) How many monitors do you have  -- one monitor (same issue exists with or without multiple desktops open).

2) Do you have anything else running which might impact the taskbar? -- no (unless you are talking about Windows itself).

3) What scaling factor is your screen set to?  -- 100%

4) Is this a touch aware device? -- no.

I have the same problem, and I'm also a Windows Insider on Beta channel. System tray is fine and works great until I choose to use Start11 taskbar, then it disappears. Have tried uninstalling/reinstalling Start11, but doesn't help.

This is one of the risks of using an insider build.  The next insider build is liable to fix this.

I too am seeing this - no system tray. I'm on the Beta Build 22610 currently.

I understand there is a new insider build today which no doubt will resolve this.

It would appear that this issus has returned in version 1.39.

When the start button and icons are centered, the system tray is completely invisible.

When the start button and icons are set to left, the system tray comes back but the theme that Start11 applies is missing. it is instead a solid color. I have included a few screenshots

I am running Windows 11 version 22H2

That sounds kind of like what I am seeing. Bizarre.
