Start 11 completely rejected by bitdefender

Disables computer

After installing Start11 Bitdefender started detecting all kinds of threats and disabled start11, in effect disabling my system.

Is there a virus in Start11?

Assuming you downloaded it from Stardock, no.

It sounds like bitdefender is incorrectly detecting things.

What exactly did it claim to have deteted?

Yes, I downloaded the software from stardock.

Bitdefender didn't say what the problem was, it just started quarantining files.

All I can see are the log entries below:

This is the first file it quarantined

Bitdefender moved a threat to quarantine. File name: C:\$Recycle.Bin\S-1-5-21-1396956931-2981137099-3489281083-1001\$IODEBIU.exe. It is recommended that you run a System Scan to make sure your system is clean.

Then it did about 10 lnk files like:

Bitdefender moved a threat to quarantine. File name: C:\Users\richj\AppData\Roaming\Stardock\S10\Microsoft.WindowsTerminal_8wekyb3d8bbwe\App.lnk. It is recommended that you run a System Scan to make sure your system is clean.

Start11 was completely disabled by the time it was done

It all started happening while start11 was installing

Bitdefender can be a bit slow keeping up to date.  It's why I switched to Kaspersky back when Win 7 came out.

Programs that work 'with' Windows' Explorer shell can often be confused by AV proggies as "suspicious activity" and be blocked.

Work around for you [until Bitdefender catches up] would be a temp disable of the AV until Start 11 is installed...;)

Thanks for your comments!

Between the two of them, I can live without Start11 without much stress.  Would be nervous living without Bitdefender.

I opened a support ticket with Bitdefender, perhaps they can show me how to ignore start11.

I would personally suggest that an AV package that cries wolf is one I wouldn't renew when it comes up to renewal.

Those lnk files for example are literally just lnk files to installed universal apps.  How it thought they were dangerous I will never know.

I hear you.

My preference would be that if AV software is going to make an error, better it cry wolf than miss an infection.  Of course, no errors in any direction would be the top preference!
