Start11 scroll wheel only works after I click down with scroll wheel ? bug or feature ?

I click start and up comes start 11.

Move mouse to second column which is alphabetical list of program and use scroll wheel to move down.  Nothing happens. There is a scroll bar indicating I should be able to scroll but can only by dragging the scroll bar down.

In search for others with problem and tinkering I find that if I click down with my scroll wheel, I can then use it to scroll up and down.  Very strange.  I then leave and come back thinking maybe it is just my scroll wheel but it is not.  It works the same ever time.

Is this as designed ? or a defect.  I am happy I have figured out how to scroll but never ran into this anywhere.

What mouse do you have?

Thats not normal behaviour but it could be doing so switches your mouse into a different mode or it gives mouse focus to the window.

Trackball Logitech MX ergo.   I'll plug in a dumb run of the mill mouse and see if it makes any difference.

Mouse makes no difference.  Same behavior.  Strange.  I'll keep tinkering with it.  Must be some something here causing it.

I'll add I'm using share mouse across several PCs and Macs and I don't have Start11 on the other windows boxes and microsoft start behaves exactly the same.  Seems something with my multimachine keyboard/mouse sharing I think.  Ruled mouse out and  both starts show exact same behavior.  It is not specific to Start11.  Still can't fix but will eventually.

Hello,

I'm also having issues with scrolling in the windows 10 or windows 11 version of the start menu.

I open up start 11, click "All apps >" and try scrolling with my mouse wheel, and it doesn't respond... nothing. I can only scroll by dragging the scroll bar manually.

Same thing happens on the windows 10 start menu experiencing in Start11. However, if I go to "Modern Style", then I am able to get focus of the window and scroll with my mouse wheel as expected. Same with Windows 7 Style.

I have a Logitech MX Master 3 wireless mouse connected via bluetooth to my Windows 10 pro machine. It definitely feels like a focus issue.

As I just replied there, this "fix" is just a workaround.  This is still a defect in Start 11.  You should not have to have an OS feature which scrolls all windows not in focus to fix your start utility which is either broken or poorly designed.  This is a kludge which is a work around for users who this feature will not cause problems in every other context/windows on their machine.  I don't want this feature turned on, it causes all kinds on unintended scrolling of windows behind windows....... If your only problem is this one and it doesn't bother you elsewhere, run with this.  For the rest of us, Stardock, please fix this.

Had NO problems with Fences 3 but just "upgraded" to 4.12 on my new system and the scroll bar still doesn't work. This is annoying to say the least and has gone on too long.

Note, this thread is focused on Start11 not Fences.

My bad for putting my reply in the wrong thread. Same problem but different app. I've uninstalled Start 11 although not because of the scroll issue

Just my input on this one. I saw this issue sometimes but not just on Start11. If and when it happened, it effect to all scroll-able application. My issue always with Logitech Option. This issue clear up for me as soon as I relaunch Logitect Option.

Very interesting that killing Logi helps a lot with Start11.   Doesn't fix scrolling for me but fixes a lot of crazy stuff Start11 does which drives me nuts.  Start11 is like Objectdock.  Riddled with defects which lead us to better software.  I don't know why I installed Start11 cause it broke my vow to never use anything from Stardock ever again.   Unfortunately, Logi is worth far more to me than Start11 which I barely touch.  If I really needed Start11 it would have been scrapped long ago cause it generally doesn't work well.

I will add I've not seen Logi affect any other app but will now be on the lookout for this possibility.

On the other hand, Logitech Option work great with Start11 for me. Not sure why it don't work for you. And on the scrolling issue side. I don't think Start11 is one causing the issue. Since, for me, when the scrolling don't work. It effect the entire system including scrolling web pages and my MS Excel and MS Word documents. Which should not effect with or without Start11 running. So not really sure why you're solely blaming Start11 on your scrolling issue.

What sort of issues has it been causing?

From your earlier post I see you said the initial issue in this thread happens with both the OS startmenu and Start11.  If that's the case then surely that's not a defect in Start11?

I can confirm that without "Scroll inactive windows when I hover over them" turned on, I can not scroll the All Apps section or scroll through Start11 pages. I am using Logitech Options Plus with a Logitech MX Master 3S, but there is no easy way to test whether Logitech Options Plus is causing the problem because you can't turn it off without uninstalling it, and I have too many custom settings for apps which would have to be recreated to test this. I have always had "Scroll inactive windows when I hover over them" turned on, so I never noticed this issue. Evidently, at least on on Windows 10, the Start11 menu is not given focus when opened when using the Windows 10 or windows 11 styles.

Windows 10 - 19045.3030; Start11 1.4.5 beta

EDIT: I killed the Logitech Options Plus services in the Task manager and very quickly clicked the Start button, and still no scrolling with "Scroll inactive windows when I hover over them" turned off. The services automatically restart, so it's difficult to test, but I believe the Start11 menu is not given focus when opened when using the Windows 10 or windows 11 styles. This is also the case with the native Windows 10 Start menu. It bears further testing for sure.

EDIT 2: I did a clean boot with only Microsoft services and Start11 running, and this issue persists on both the native Windows 10 Start menu and the Start11 menu, so I think we can rule out Logitech Options Plus as causing this issue.
