Doctor Who

I just finished watching a report on BBC London News here in the UK about the new Doctor Who, which is due to start filming soon. They had Tom Baker (still probably the best Doctor) on there and he 'let slip' that the new Doctor would be played by Eddie Izzard. I don't believe it myself, but I'm slightly worried that it could be true.

Who would you like to see as the new Doctor Who?

I LOVE DR WHO!!!!!!!  I used to watch it on PBS all the time.

I have no idea who Eddie Izzard is

He's a comedian: http://www.eddieizzard.com

I'm not sure I like the idea of a transvestite Doctor.

I read in the Wall Street Journal (of all places) that Dr. Who was going to come back. Only they said it would be up to two years before we would see the new episodes! I hope that is wrong as I love Doctor Who! I would like to see Tom Baker come back as, to me, he was the best Doctor ever! If anyone is interested, you can get Doctor Who on DVD at Best Buy. I bought them all! Now I am broke!

I think Dylan Moran from Black Books would be perfect. (Non-UK people won't know of him).
He's got the perfect quirkiness that the character of the Doctor has.

Okay, I haven't seen Dr. Who, but have heard of it. and the remark about the transvestite brought to mind Tim Curry. Gave me a Rocky Horror flash back . I think that he may work in this case though, 'cause he is a very talented actor too.

We've got the complete series from episode 1 replaying on our free-to-air national TV station.

The hard part is getting home by 6:00PM (it's original timeslot) to watch!

William Hartnell is the first Dr Who

I stopped watching Dr. Who when I realised that, to get away from the Daleks, all you had to do was climb a few stairs.

In this week's episode, (the first ever with Daleks) they deduced that the Dlaeks were being powered by static electricity through the floor (this was in a city on the Dalek's home planet). So all they had to do was to put a plastic blanket on the ground and trick the Dalek into rolling over it

Some really dubious science going on here! And talk about Spectacularly BAD SFX (it's the Dr Who trademark, I know, but these are awesomely BAAAD)

Yes....we have the entire series being replayed on ABC [public] television.....from ep 1....and only thanks to the Oz ABC...as the BBC had lost many of the early series and some back-room guy in Australia tripped over them by accident.

I always liked that cartoon depicting a Dalek at the bottom of the stairs and looking up them and remarking 'there goes our plans of world domination'....

Chris.....the really great thing about them [the Daleks] was that they were a truly original and inventive creature......and one heck of a lot better/imaginative than those facially-challenged 'aliens' on Star Trek......heavens....they could have two arms, two legs and a great pair of boobs....PROVIDED they looked like they head-butted trams for a hobby.....THAT's not 'aliens'...that's make-up artists....

Totally agree! It seems that way for a lot of early sci-fi (Lost in Space comes to mind also).

The whole universe full of humnanoids? I don't think so

I loved DW. Yes, Baker was the best Dr. The others also had strong points. Remember that the Dr. had to be reincarnated from time to time. As for the new Dr. I do believe it should be someone who could carry on in the tradition of the series. Someone like Ozzie Osbourne. No just kidding. Charles Bronson. No. Ummmmm,......let's see. How about ...just don't know...oh....darn......just get the series going again. >
