Start11 - Barrier KVM screen switching

Hi,

I just got Start11 5-pack and it works great on my single-screen gaming desktop, but on my work setup I have 2 monitors with Windows 11 on the left and a MacBook on the right, sharing the mouse / keyboard / clipboard with Barrier KVM.

Whenever I mouse click the Start11 start button, the cursor jumps over to the Mac screen (taking keyboard focus with it). This doesn't repro with the regular Windows start button, nor with the Classic Shell start button. It also doesn't repro if I configure the Windows key to open the Start11 menu and use it to open (however, it's difficult to unlearn 25+ years of just using the mouse to open the menu).

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you!

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

Does this still happen with Multiplicity should you try and install it?

It looks like Multiplicity only works on Windows PCs. In my case I'm sharing the mouse/keyboard between a Windows 11 PC and an Apple MacBook (running macOS).

Drat.  I would not be able to test that then I am afraid.

Do you have any hotkeys set up for switching to the other PCs?  If so, and you disable them, does it still happen?

No hotkeys, the switch is seamless as you scroll past the edge of the screen. This also repros with the start button in the center.

But, just tried using a custom start button image and it no longer repros when that is used, so I'm unblocked for now; but it would still be nice to add this to your backlog and figure out the root cause (or document it for other customers).

Thanks!

Does the KVM app have some option for switching on rapid mouse movements like flicks?

Also is your primary monitor to the left of the secondary monitor on your Windows machine?

No, the Windows 11 monitor is on the left which makes it even more weird.

This can't be screen recorded because it's different OSs, but I tried making a video of the issue which hopefully makes it clearer:

I'm having a similar issue, I'm using "Mouse without Borders" as my KVM (no I can't use multiplicity I tried, blocked by my work computer)

One more thing that I noticed, clicking on the start menu seems to send the cursor to the top-middle of the main monitor.  It does not happen when I use the default windows 11 start menu (Start11 taskbar but default OS start menu) through disabling the start menu or ctrl+click the start menu button.

I have not tried the custom button workaround yet I will and report back.

I'm using Barrier as well and can confirm the behavior from the original post.

Using a custom image for the Start button does fix the issue, but I quite like Windows 11's Start button and center alignment (which isn't possible with a custom image?).

Could we get a fix for this behavior prioritized for an upcoming release? I'm stuck with the default Start menu until then. It's discouraging to download updates for Start 11 and read through the release notes with no fixes for this major bug for those of us with virtual KVMs.

I have the same issue with Barrier and start11. I really don't like the custom image hack as it requires me to loos the center taskbar. Any update on this issue Stardock?

Hello, if you have a problem, do what's here https://www.stardock.com/products/multiplicity/ should work for you and it should be fine as it should I also had the same problem and I did what here and it's good

I am pleased to say I believe we have found the issue here and will have it fixed in an upcoming update.

Note that it will not be the very next beta update as the fix has missed that build as it is already being tested, but the next update after that should hopefully contain the fix.

Start11 has been updated to potentially address this
