Start 11 Windows 10 Menu Style (Issues & Suggestions)

Using Windows 10 Menu Style Listed Current Issues & Some Suggestions.

Hi,

Just installed the latest beta version of Start 11. I am using the Windows 10 Menu Style.

(START MENU AREA)

1.) Some Icons are appearing as blank Items just their name shows as you mouse over them (This is in the Tile Area (Left Side) They appear fine in the list view (Right Side)

2.) Still Can't Create small groups of Icons in Tiled Area by Dragging One on top a another (Like In Windows 10 OS)

3.) Clicking Letter in the File List shows the Clock and Alphabet but when selection a letter from the list the File List is not shown only the Clock works which defaults to recently installed item (Top of File List)

4.) it is possible to add Command / Search input at bottom of windows 10 style menu along with logout button options? (see Image)

(TASK BAR AREA)

1.) Still no way to Add or Create Toolbars on the Task-Bar (Custom Icon Groups in folder from system) will this feature from windows 10 be implemented?

2.) Minor issue Font seems smaller than normal is it possible to add a size selection or increase front by at leas 2px. on the Task Bar.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues.

Please provide screenshot for this.

3.) Clicking Letter in the File List shows the Clock and Alphabet but when selection a letter from the list the File List is not shown only the Clock works which defaults to recently installed item (Top of File List)
End of quote

Can't recreate your issue on my system. Maybe I am looking at different location. Please post a video on this issue.

1. (Icons Image Missing). One example in screenshot (Uninstalled and reinstalled software still same also tried removing from tile list and re-pinning after a reboot and still same. others have come back this one just won't re-appear.

2. Selecting Letter Quick Jump Brings up the Alpha-Numeral Selection box But no matter what you click it goes to file list always at top Recently Installed. (dont know how to capture video from desktop sorry)

Brings the Quick Selection Alpha-Numeral up as below.

No matter what is clicked here it alwasy goes to Top Selection of File list Recently Installed. (have uninstalled and done clean install its still the same.

Thanks. David

I too am getting blank icons in the latest beta of Start11 using the Windows 10 layout - but worse than above. This issue appeared shortly after installing Start11 for the first time yesterday.

All icons appeared normal when I first installed Start11 and began configuring at organising my pinned programs out - but throughout the day as I started actually using my PC for work, the issue appeared.

I'm using the latest Windows 11 stable insider update (build 22000.28) with the Ryzen fixes (as I'm on a 5600x CPU).

When I launch any program with missing icons, the icon is also missing in the taskbar too.

In the screenshot below I've Adobe Indesign running - the taskbar icon and shortcut is not displaying properly as you can see below.

Edit - I'm also running triple screens

If you have missing icons in the taskbar as well then the issue isn't a Start11 one but something wrong with the OS icon cache itself.

Start11 only shows what the OS provides in the left hand tree there so if there is no icon thats what Start11 would show.

I would recommend a reboot of Windows to see if that resolves the issue.

The icon missing on the right hand side may be because an experimental tile feature was enabled in error which means the right hand list loads up the tile images for the app rather than the icon and it looks like it doesn't like that for VS2019.  This will be disabled again in an update later today.

Issue number 2 looks to have been triggered by that - entry.  It seems to have confused matters.  Thats why you can't click on the other items in the filter list because they are all greyed out.

Will investigate this for the update today as well.

All was fine before installing Start11 (I'm using a licensed copy which I upgraded from Start10) - FYI I thought I'd try the default 11 start bar out for a couple of weeks and finally got sick of it yesterday and thought I'd give Start11 a try.

No windows update has been run since installing and my PC has been rebooted several times since and the missing icons are still there... I've also run through a few of the usual generic Windows fixes to no avail - then did a search and found this post so that's why I'm here!

The user bug report above is different though.  It has an icon in the left list, it is purely an issue with loading the tile which is blank on the right hand side.

I imagine if you opened the default Win11 menu and opened the apps list you would see the same missing icons?

Photoshop and Indesign and 2 of the programs with icon issues - I pinned them to the standard Windows 11 star bar and the icons are fine in the default Win11 menu

Is the taskbar still drawing them incorrectly if you launch from there?

Kind of fixed it - I unpinned Photoshop and Indesign from everything it was pinned to - rebooted - went to the exes for both programs and pinned them both to the taskbar - rebooted and they both came back to the taskbar - went to the exes again and pinned them to Start11 and they're back again - I then unpinned them from the taskbar, rebooted and the taskbar and pinned start11 icons are now working fine again.

But on the left app menu the photoshop and indesign icon are still missing?

In windows explorer no icons or shortcuts have been missing at any point.

Here's what it looks like now - as you can see the original icons in explorer are fine:

The Adobe creative cloud just updated all the apps to new 2022 versions so that had the side effect of fixing the other issue now too...

The 0.94 update should have resolved the issue with VS 2019 icon and the alpha numerical quick selection box.

Oki for some reason the install did not complete, even though it had appeared to (Possibly something I did) : I have installed Fresh the 0.94 Version and yes the Icons are now all working correctly, as is the Alpha Numerical Quick Selection area. All is Good.

Thank You for the quick Fix and information given.
