Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

Do this please.

Make sure in your Fences app Enable Fences is checked

and also in Task Manager make sure both Fences are enabled

Once they are both checked Enabled REBOOT your PC.

See images below .

If you still don't see your Fences after Rebooting your PC

Check your snapshots in the Fences app and Restore a Snapshot .

Then Reboot .

After all that's done Report back here if that worked for you or if you

need further help .

Is this a Fences folder portal?

If so, there is a rather detailed test that we would like you to perform.

In that folder - let's call it folder A, create a new folder called 'temp'. Place all the files from folder A into it.

In a small group - say 5 files at a time - move them from temp to folder A again. Test that the Fences Folder Portal does \ does not crash.

Once you have found the file that is crashing the Fences Folder Portal, what is it, what are the characteristics of it (web link, Network shortcut, etc)?

Thanks for the report, effort, and time.

i will try it tomorrow,

and i just record a video about the crash problem,

please see here: video

basically all the folder inside is some photoshop or ai file, jpg and pdf etc..

as you can see its not crash by moving file, it's crash by click back to the previous folder.

( its not every folder will crash, some folder is ok click back to the previous, but some will crash)

see if it can help.

and i will do your suggestion tomorrow.

Thank you very much.

hi,

i try what you suggest, move all file from "folder A" to "temp" but there are no crash,

and i found one more button it's make Fences crash,

(my windows is in chinese, i guess this button in engish is "Allow browsing")

so when i click this button, it crash and show the message.

every time show the message i need reinstall the Fences.

see if it help for solve the problem,

Thankyou.

I could not reproduce what you were seeing:

My thought is still that one folder you are navigating to has something in it that is causing Fences to crash.  As you have seen in your own video you posted, you can navigate folder portals fine, it just seems when you get to a certain one, it blows up.  What is in that folder - what is unique about the files in it?

please see the below image and i show you all the files in my folder,

there are all is jpg /png / psd / ai / AE / pdf and no other format file.

some files i didn't show inside but also is just jpg / pdf / ai

i see you also using chinese window on the video

can you read chinese?

It will be more convenient for us to talk in Chinese

Thankyou very much.

I do not speak \ read Chinese but if you can read English, and change your PC language to it (English), it would be a good test to see if under it if it still crashes.   If it does not, then we can look more at why it might be under Chinese.

Changing the language will not change how any software you have works or looks permanently - it will only do it for the duration you have it applied (the other language).

To the OP, this problem has been reported in  several threads.  Don't have a solution but apparently it's not resolved.  I have uninstalled fences for now.

One thing that I didn't mention in the previous thread is that I think this started with me after a Win 10 update right before or after 3.13 was released.

did the reinstall, uninstall, purge thing again and still had the same problem.  I'm convinced the Win 10 update broke fences.  Especially in light of the fact so many posts in the fences forum recently are about this issue.

Fences has lots of installs - were it systemic, we would be getting crushed right now - we are not (thank God 😉).

That is not to say it is insignificant, it's just more local to the users we think - some setting or third party app.

For all with the issue, if you do a clean boot (yes, its a pain to do), do you still see the issue?

i do the clean boot but i am not sure am i do it right or not,

i hide the Microsoft services and disable all the 3 party Services, restart the computer,

but still can't use Fences, it still show the message in clean boot mode.

what can i do next?

or i do the wrong way?

Thanks.

just want to report.

I reinstalled the old version of Fences_3.09.

After a few days, there is no "Fences has detected that Explorer was not closed Properly Error Message" situation so far.

For anyone still seeing this, we REALLY need someone to use this to help us resolve it:

https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#ExtendedCrashReporting

It should also trigger a 'BugSplat' us where you can enter your email address.  Please enter the one you are posting here with when you reply with the zip and we will look that up as well.

Thank you for your help and patience.
