I would like WC to add another option in the awards and add 100,000 downloads. It's not easy to do and I think it should be there to seperate those skinners from those that release only 1 or 2 skins.

Steve Grenier, they already have the award for those that have over 1000 downloads. So just about everyone has that award. Are you saying to do away with that one and make it 100,000 instead? Or have both? Why not just have the million DL club and do away with the little stuff?

my question is "why care about downloads?". i'm glad shawn has reached the level he has. shawn's a good guy. why does stardock needs more awards for downloads? is this skinning bit a contest or have i missed out on something? if you're doing this skinning bit for the awards and accolades, you're doing it for the wrong reasons.

Well the truth is that all authors care about downloads. After all, this site (as many others) is run by numbers.
Download counts determine a lot of things. One good example is the recent contest SD held, where download counts determined the top 10 authors to be awarded a percentage of the site's subscriptions revenue. They also show how popular an author or a skin is, not to mention that is one form of reward for those authors that don’t derive money profit from their time and work.

Now I will agree that if a person is skinning for the sole purpose of collecting downloads, then they are doing it for the wrong reasons. I also don’t think that there is any need for addition awards regarding download counts. But the awards and counts are there for a reason and whether every one agrees or not, they do mean a lot.

They do? I'd rather care about quality Apoc.

Yeah well, once the skin is out the downloads will determine that aspect of the work. So we do care about them.
Lets face it, would you download a skin with poor quality? NO you wont. So the downloads will show how good or appealing the skin is. Low downloads will tell the author that his/her work needs improvement. Think about that.

Anyways, that will be a different subject of discussion. This thread is about the goal achived by WSTaylor. Lets not deviate from it.
