Upgrade failed, Both Fences and Windows desktops lost

Can't uninstall Fences

from Stardock Forums

OS: Windows 7

Fences upgrade failed with warning about interfering programs such as antivirus. Desktop disappeared -- both Fences and Windows

I opened Firewall, stopped antivirus, rebooted, then attempted to run upgrade again. Failed with message

c:\Program Files (X86)Stardock\Fences\Uninstall\Encoding.Imd(#1)

I attempted to uninstall Fences through Windows, but get message that uninstall is in use. However, I don't see uninstall in use in Task Manager. 

A serious situation. I need to get my desktop back.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try purge and reinstall steps as mentioned here: https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#reinstalling. Just make sure to re-download the latest version from your account->https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products . Reboot after the purged. Reinstall, and Reboot again after the installation. Retest it. Report back here.

I also had problems with several of the recent updates. This is some of the most buggy software I have ever seen. It also causes some extreme performance issues.

 

Have used Stardock products for over 15 years. I think that time is at an end. Tired of being an unpaid beta tester.

Running that .bat file worked. I then downloaded and installed Fences 3. All seemed OK at first.  Icons in the Desktop folder showed up on the Fences general desktop as expected. 

I created a first fence and populated it. Then all the icons in the Desktop folder disappeared from the Fences desktop, except for the ones in the fence I just created and populated. 

How to I get Fences to once again communicate with the Desktop folder?

Hello,

Do you have OneDrive Desktop Sync turn on? This will not work with Fences.
