Put an individual file on a Fence?

Setting up a new PC.  Have been using Fences for years.  Tried something new:  I copied a spreadsheet I use nearly every day to a new Fence window, and it worked!  Opened it, and that worked.  But I made some temporary changes and did NOT save it.  But when I returned to the icon in Fences the temporary changes were implemented.  Went back to the original file under Windows and it was as original; changes not saved.  So where is the temporary version saved?  And can I make the icon in a Fence just point to the regular location and only update if I save?

Hello,
Need to know what program you use to open your spreadsheet, Excel? When you said you copied to new Fence Window, is this a Portal or normal type Fence? And do you copy a physical File or create a shortcut link to the physical file?

Thanks

Just found that the file is on the desktop, seemingly disconnected from the file in the original location.  I found the saved version on the desktop.  The icon in fences still opens the edited version, even after deleting the desktop icon.  Looks like I need a link to the location, not a copy.  I do not know how to do that.

Yes, Excel spreadsheet.  Not sure about your other questions.  I just did a Copy / Paste to get it onto the Fence.  I don't know what you mean about a Portal.  I'll try to make the shortcut; sounds like what I need.

Yes!  Right clicked on the file and selected to make a shortcut and it works as I wanted it to.  Thanks so much.  Been using Fences for years and never thought of putting a Fence up that is just the spreadsheets and Word documents I use daily.

As for the question on Portal Fences, I am sure you know what Portal Fences vs Normal Fences, yes?

Tip#4: Portal Fences
