lost my "fences" after update

Windows 10.

I have been a Fences user for awhile. I updated yesterday (when offered the opportunity), but now my previously established fences are gone, and I get this message when I try to enable Fences:

Fences has detected that Explorer was not closed properly.

As a precaution, Fences has been temporarily disabled.

Try to-renable Fences, right click your desktop and choose "Enable Fence".

     [an OK button]

Yes, I rebooted after the update, although not immediately. I follow these instructions, and the same message appears.

How do I resolve this?

Will uninstalling and then dropping back to the previous version preserve fences already made? Or, do I have to reorganize and create new fences?

The purge steps as mentioned here : https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#reinstalling does not suppose to remove your saved layout snapshot. But, to be sure, you can backup your layout snapshot using this guide : https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#backupsnapshots

Thank you. I am using Beta now, and seems OK. The jumbled mess that was on my screen is now back into proper fences.
