So help me understand this.  I paid for the deskscapes.  tried it out. it does crank the gpu way too much for me to even use as well. in other words its kinda useless. pretty.. but useless.  and now? well we've been on BETA 5 for what appears to be going on a year now. Really??!!  no updates, improvements nothing?   yeah. really regretting buying this thing. I mean I'd use it but not when it's cranking the processor and my pc at 20% plus all the time. lol are you kidding me?  how bout some efficiency improvements at least.  I mean wth.

Videos use gpu, thats an unfortunate fact of life.  That isn't a fault in the product, it is the same as if you ran a fullscreen video from youtube for example (depending on codec as there is naturally a trade between filesize and cpu and gpu usage).  Throw in any windows sat above the animations which will be recomposited by the DWM each frame and it is clear animations use cpu/gpu.

Some dreams will use considerably less such as dynamic dreams or static wallpapers with effects applied.

yes. hence why I mentioned "efficiency improvements"  I get all that technical reality you just explained. but mediocrity is mediocrity. and this thing has worked better in the past even. My system now blows it out of the water as far as capabilities. efficiency should be a priority first imho on product like this otherwise, it's just watching another video/screensaver rather than a live wallpaper as it claims to be.

Yeah, this is one of my first years since '98 that I haven't renewed my OD sub.

Just bought the software...

Deleting wallpapers and dreams is glitched, it seems. After deleting a single item, then having an item selected and clicking "Options," the sub-menu doesn't appear for me. The sub-menu also doesn't appear when you click "Options" if you have multiple items selected.

It could be because the requirements are Windows 10 64-bit (Version 21H1 and earlier) and I'm on the newer Windows 10 64-bit 22H2.

Just a minor inconvenience, I guess.

It is watching a video in most cases so you would expect similar impact on your computer plus a little more as you have windows overlapping it unlike when you watch a video usually.

There are video wallpapers and dynamic wallpapers.  The second type are live and do not use videos and will use considerably less gpu and cpu.

Everytime I reboot my computer Deskscapes icon is back in the hidden menu. Even though I have moved it out of the hidden taskbar menu. I also manually ticked that it is never to be hidden in settings. But one reboot and its back to hidden. Can you adress this issue?

You would need to contact Microsoft with regards to that issue I am afraid.

We just create an icon, what they do with it is up to explorer.

Well, this time it seems to be Deskscape that has the bug. Cause I have tried moving other icons to the hidden menu, and they respect where I put them after reboot. Moving them out of menu and back on taskbar saves the new position. However, Deskscape does not respect the new position, it goes back into hidden menu after reboot no matter what. I even uninstalled Deskscape and reinstalled, same issue. So it  must be something in Deskscape registry something during startup that makes Windows think its the first startup or something.

But at least I have ruled out Windows bug since all other icons behave normally.

I am having an issue with DeskScapes 11 Beta 5.  When my computer wakes from sleep the animated wallpaper does not restart until I restart the windows explorer process.  I am using the latest version of windows 11.

A PC sleeping \ waking is a rather destructive event for running apps. DS is certainly not the only PC app that suffers from it at times.

A way around that is to set your power settings to just turn off the monitor, not power down the entire system.

The location of the icon is entirely up to Windows Explorer.
