Cut/Paste into browser address bar crashes browser.

I am sending this as an FYI.  It might be a solution to people having issues with Cut/Paste with Multiplicity.  I did not realize it was a self inflicted Multiplicity issue.

Quick Summary… of a complicated troubleshooting—took me a week to figure out.

PROBLEM:   In every browser I had installed in a Windows 7 HTPC computer for my TV  (edge, chrome, opera) the browser would become unresponsive for 15 sec and lock up if I right clicked and pasted in to  the address bar.  If I pasted in a search that was on the web site (Amazon) , it worked ok.  Any pasting to the Address bar caused it to crash.

Effecting 3 browsers  I figured it was a recent update to windows 7—even though they do not update it anymore, but do send security updates every once in a while.

A Google search showed it was a known issue--and no mention of Multiplicity … none of the solutions worked.

After trying everything-- I restored the computer from a “Ghost Image” from last year, shut off updates and the problem continued.  I even re-installed Multiplicity on the HTPC-- still did not work.   It would even happen if I cut and pasted from the HTPC to itself.

SOLUTION

The source of the problem ended up being I turned OFF my Bitdefender Firewall a week ago on my laptop--- the Primary computer on Multiplicity.   My problem was occurring on my HTPC desktop, not my laptop.  I shut off the firewall on the laptop to troubleshoot a  Windows 10 version 20H2 update error.  Evidently, multiplicity was installed with Bitdefender on… and when I shut it off the Windows firewall was not set up for it, so it blocked any paste… What made it hard to figure out was it still allowed for the Mouse control to the HTPC.

I turned on the firewall…. Problem fixed.
