How "not" to share between devices?

Hello All, I have a desktop PC and a Surface laptop. I have Fences on my desktop and have uninstalled it on my Surface. The question is, when I add an app icon to the desktop (in a Fence), it replicates it on the Surface.

So the question is, what Windows 10 setting do I turn off so this doesn't happen?

Click on OneDrive icon on taskbar --> More --> Settings --> Account --> Choose folders --> untick Desktop

OR

 

Click on OneDrive icon on taskbar --> More --> Settings --> Backup --> Manage backup --> Disable desktop sync
