DeskScapes Configuration Window Keeps Closing

Has anyone else experienced DeskScapes suddenly closing after opening the configuration window? I'm Using Windows 10 Pro build 20H2 and any DeskScape I install or run, runs perfectly well. It's just the configuration window automatically closes down & noticed this only happening after the latest Windows update...

I experienced something similar to Gary56 after the most recent update to Windows 10 Build 19043.867. I know he is on 19042.867, but they are the same code base. Deskscapes Configuration would not even open for me.

I uninstalled Deskscapes 10.03, ran the purge bat, and reinstalled with a new installer downloaded from my account. All seem to be well so far.

Deskscapes operates fine. Again, the configuration window closes after 4 seconds of being open. In order for me to run a different Dream, I just dbl. click one in the folder.  Really appreciate your working on the issue. Thanks again, ~Gary

@ Gary56

Hello ,

Would you Please do a Clean Boot: https://forums.stardock.com/485954/deskscapes-support-faq#cleanboot

this will tell you if you have 3rd party causing your issue .

Your AV/Security software might be causing a problem try shutting it down to check ..

Thank you for the troubleshoot AzDude! Again, followed your directions to a 'T' and double checked on the  Windows Firewall to make sure DeskScapesconfig.exe was allowed. Same 4 second results. Don't know if using Elecard Mpeg-2 plugin would affect this!? However, it never did in the past with the configuration.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

I use the L-Lite mega pk decoders https://codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_mega.htm

Give that a try , always reboot after fixes ..

Not sure about Elecard - try without ..

Is your video card up to date , check that .

Hello,

I did uninstall the Elecard and my Dreams actually ran fine w/o it, whereas with the previous Windows build, it needed the plug in. I rebooted each step of the way and again the configuration.exe stayed up for the 4 secs. before closing. I did notice that when the config window was previously working, it showed the preview Dream working, whereas now, before closing it says 'Loading Background Preview'. In other words when it was functioning properly, the dream would function properly in the preview. The DeskScape works fine however on the desktop.

Having said that, I did download & install the K-Lite Mega Pack codecs, rebooted with the above results. BTW, I love your 4K DarkCube II. Gary

Getting there

One more thing to check out ( see image )

open DS app click on settings ( 1 )  and you have 3 options - Media Foundation , EVR, VMR-9

one of those 3 option may run better for your PC then the other 2 , try each setting

AzDude....

Unfortunately the 4 second configwindow , which doesn't show a preview (because it's trying to load), doesn't allow for any activation within it.

I did start from scratch by uninstalling DS, reboot, ran your .bat file, reboot, went to my latest download of DS on my Stardock page, downloaded, reboot. I was able to find those display controls for quality vs performance and they didn't have any affect with the configuration.exe. But I'm happy to be able to run DS dreams, even though I don't have the pleasure of configuration.

Thanks a lot for all of your help.  ~Gary

DeskScapes 11 is on the way - Stay-Tuned

DS11 with a lot of new features and fixes should work best for you.

No release date yet but coming soon ...

I'm a longtime Stardock user & have Object Desktop. Will certainly be looking forward to the new release!

I did notice in Task Manager under Details-UAC virtualization that DS was 'not allowed'.

This is an interesting and relevant thread.  The same thing happens to me with DS11 in Win11 build 22000.282.

Running: Deskscape 11 10.93, Start11 .91, and Fences 3.1.33 (since 4Alpha can't make snapshots), that all.  Followed all of the above except for the codecs. I only use 2 monitor stretching with an image that works fine on Win10 using Deskscape10 10.02.

It appears that DS11 .93 still needs a bit of tweaking...it can't stay active with a minimal task at this point.   I hope for an update soon because it helps 2 monitor look great when it works.

@Slankton

Can you please post your issue in a new thread so its not mixed in with these others .Thanks

Sorry...I thought this was exactly the same issue...Deskscape 11 keeps closing after a minute or a few.  What is different from this thread?

I followed all of the above steps, purge, reboot, fresh download, re-install, activate and still the same end result.
Deskscape 11 runs but any attempt to configure the slide out menu opens and immediately closes again.

Running on Win 11 Home, fully upto date in every respect including graphic drivers.

What else can I do. Assistance please.

Hi Basj,
Thanks for the come back. Info requested attached.
Btw, nVidea driver 516.59 (latest)

Reg Info

The video is probably a bit too big for attaching here, so I've put it on my MEGA drive.
Link for download is: https://mega.nz/file/DUpi3JjI#mw_XtMjVJ3S2enUGr0Js-kgOsxNuRgUibEyvxBSTfaA

Also apart from the OS variable, I've got pretty much the same setup in WIN 10 as here in WIN 11, and Deskscape 11 works fine in WIN 10. Go figure.

Cheers

Look like you on insider preview build. Do know that Stardock do not officially support on Windows 11 Insider/Beta build. Appreciate your report.

OK, thanks. I'll see if changing to a Std Win 11 status makes any difference. Will advise if and when.
