Software does not stay activated

Software does not stay activated

Every time I reboot my laptop, I need to reactivate all Stardock products.  Needless to say, this is annoying to the point where I have considered deleting them all.  Any advise would be welcome

dofdof, Thank you for following up with this information.  I'm sure it will be helpful for other users as well.

Let us know if you continue to have any additional issues with activation, outside of AVG Tuneup deleting your license.sig file.

We did identify one bug when activating with different product keys.  This is a server side problem and we should have a fix for this deployed tomrrow.

We have identified and fixed a bug on our servers.  If you have multiple keys and are switching between keys with each activation you may run into this issue. The issue was incorrectly allowing licenses to exceed their activation limit when switching product keys. When the software would later attempt to validate the license it would detect that the activation limit was exceed and invalidate one of the licenses. Upon reactivation with a different key the cycle would continue.

The bug has been fixed. However, it is possible that your licenses may not be in a proper state yet. It is recommended that you De-activate and Re-active each software on each PC to ensure they are correct.

Additionaly, You may also want to visit your product download page to manage your keys: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products
Clicking on the question mark (?) button next to the product key allows you to view and manage your licenses. You may find old PC’s that were once activated and no longer need to be. You can de-activate them there to clean up any invalid/old activations.

I have reached out to Avast \ AVG to see what can be done about them deleting our activation files.

In the meantime, and if you continue to use their product, you can disable this option which appears to be the cause:

I tried the fix but license.sig disappeared and another activation request for Fences3 popped up just now. So whatever it is that deletes the file, that was not prevented by disabling that particular option. I am using Avast, not AVG, in case that makes any difference. sig.bin also disappeared from the CursorFX folder in programdata. The activation request usually pops up when I reboot my computer.

Update: I put the license files back (from a backup copy I made) and this morning the automatic maintenance had not messed with them. Finally a boot without having to activate Fences and CursorFX. So it does seem to work. Thank you!

They are the same company now...

Ok... So we have worked with AVAST \ AVG and believe we have it worked out....

Hello Sean,

I would like to inform you that the situation with [all SD apps] should be resolved. License files should no longer be deleted after using AVG TuneUp.

The solution is to modify the config file for AVG TuneUp. The new config file should be automatically downloaded by customers within 48 hours. If customers want to see the solution immediately, they need to delete the config file for AVG TuneUp. Then restart the Cleanupsvc service, wait until a new config file is downloaded, and then restart the Cleanupscv service again.

Please check if the situation is resolved.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at any time.

Best regards,
AVG Customer Care

So I believe the config.ini is here:

C:\Program Files\AVG\TuneUp\Setup

I renamed it to config.OLD, restarted the TuneUp service (there was not a Cleanupsvc):

Did another scan it the files were kept - no more deletion.

I am not certain how the process would be for AVAST (again, same company makes both product) but I am pretty certain it would be similar.

If you wait, or do the manual process above, please let us know if it worked for you and thanks for the feedback \ patience.

On my system the scan still removes the license files. I stopped the service, renamed the config.ini file, but when I let the system remove Program Temp files as part of the cleanup of system junk, license.sig and sig.bin are removed.

In fact, I just discovered: the license files are still being removed, even with the program temp files item disabled on the scan settings of Avast Cleanup.

So, still no joy.

Hello,

I think it is best to post your finding on AVAST or AVG side, since they know better why it is still getting removed.

Thank you,

Is it still the case as the AVG \ AVAST products should have updated by now.

I have uploaded a report  file to them this morning, I still have the problem, and the config.ini file has indeed been updated. The version now on my computer is dated march 22, i.e. today. This morning, as every morning, I had to activate both Fences and CursorFX. Again.

Good news, AVG Tuneup support has updated their program to no longer erase Stardock license files, I did the test and it works
