wOW....NOT SURE YET

Terrible Experience

Love the idea of fences. Heck, I would have been happy if I found something that drew a simple square around icons so I could group them. Not so but fences was as close as I could find for what I wanted.

Downloaded the latest version. I think it is 3.09. Installed it. Grouped and changed the colour of the fences. Whoa - my pc performance was terrible. Upload, downloading, creating and naming folders, running applications, you name it, the slow down was horrific. I uninstalled fences and things went back to normal.

I started a search for something similar to fences but no luck. So I downloaded 3.01 version of fences hoping it would work. So far, so good, but too tired to give it a thorough run-through.

As far as computer horsepower, my computer is no slouch so I won't take the blame for the performance drop based on my computer.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please review this thread, some solution were offered by others with Dual GPU system such as your. The solution might also work on your system : https://forums.stardock.com/490929/page/1/#3747145

Thanks

The use of Fences slows boot by 0.2 of a second to load the process.

However Microsoft requires 3rd party programs to load at the completion of the boot sequence so the desktop icons will show at the end of the boot... later than the normal sequence.

Other than that there should be no slowdown if install was correct...;)

Installation was correct. I was in Communication Squadron in the Military (23 years). One thing in the military we learn was to take responsibility for our actions and not make excuses.  So please don't insult me. Ignoring or making excuses for problems won't' fix them.  Yesterday was hell because of Stardock Fences.

1. When running applications, especially Camtasia, everything was super slow. For example, importing resources to use in Camtasia.

2. Exporting, Rendering, Saving, etc was just as painful.

3. Working with Illustrator there were constant crashes - especially as I tried to save as an SVG

4. Creating and naming folders - folders would disappear, after naming it would take 30 to 40 seconds for the folder to be created.

5. I even uninstalled 3.9 and reinstalled. Used a purging tool you listed on the forum. Didn't help.

The list of problems were longer than I want to take time to go over since the response will be "Other than that there should be no slowdown if install was correct..." I wish 0.2 slow down in booting would have been the only issue. IT WASN'T.

I was working on a project that was at least 2 weeks old. I gathered quite a few resources during that time and thought Fences was what I needed to organize. Prior to installing Fences - NO ISSUES. After installing fences there were ALL KINDS OF ISSUES. After uninstalling fences, ISSUES WENT AWAY. I only wished I would have uninstalled it sooner. That was my mistake.

Hello,

Have you tried the dual GPU solution suggested by other users as I mentioned in my reply#1?

Thank you,

I have basically the same set up as you. From what I'm seeing you're on board graphics is being recognized where as mine is not. I think that there is a conflict there. You can turn that off in the BIOs and leave your 1060 as the dedicated GPU.

End of STEVEEYES's quote

No 'insult' spoken or intended.

Fences SHOULD NOT cause slowdown in a conventional installation.  Why do I say that?  I have Fences installed on 5 systems of my own...so personal experience is that there is no issue.  This is not anecdotal.

What ALMonty  has suggested above could very likely be the issue you are seeing.

Many system problems can be un-noticed until a new program is installed and the knee-jerk reaction is to blame the new program as the cause, rather than the effect.

No-one is making "excuses for problems".  People are simply advising you to look for sources.

Again, there SHOULD BE no slowdown other than the process load time on boot....assuming all else is correct with the system.
