Start10 1.96 Changelog

  • Some tweaks to search to ensure the Start10 search isn't run ever if you are using Cortana mode and to ensure the search is terminated if you close the menu.

I just updated Start10 via ObjectDesktop and when I went to see if there were any new tweaks, I got this. I have a fully licensed subscription of Object Desktop.

Hi:

Star10 was recently updated and now I cannot change Start Button and also texture in my taskbar. In both cases, I click on respective fields and nothing happens.

I uninstalled / reinstalled and still the same issue

Please advise.

Thank you.

Because you seem to be using the WindowBlinds option to use the skinned version.

In WB, ensure you are allowing the change if you dont want to use the WB skin version.

Does this mean I lose all of my settings? If so, that's a bit unacceptable.

I got the same screen after installing 1.96 and clicking no on the reboot option. I suspect that whatever installer program they use has this as a default last screen or whatever (I don't have object desktop) that will appear during the installation / update process.

You must always reboot if the installer prompts as it means not all files could be replaced and a restart will be needed.

If you have had this problem then no thats not a problem, it shouldn't delete your settings unless you tell it to.

Before the latest WINDOWS 10 update installed 02/17/21, I had checked for an update of STARDOCK10, had issues then so aborted.  After the latest WINDOWS 10 update, WINDOWS took over my STARDOCK10 button and no longer have access to the STARDOCKS10 START10. My account features my purchase history.  I have tried to install the update, after the download rebooted, as instructed, and can still not access my favored STARDOCK10 start button ontaskbar WINDOWS emblem where I always found it.  Am I correct in thinking the update should not require me to purchase it again at $4.99.  Please HELP !!!

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know more.

  1. Windows 10 version you have, please use Microsoft's Winver.exe to get full Windows version numbers.
  2. Start10 version you have installed.
  3. Was Start10 working before Windows updated on 02/17/2021?

Thanks

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, for those folder with many files and folders it is best to use Start10 Right panel. You can easily add folder in there.

Is anyone else having this problem or is it just me? I've recently noticed that when I attempt to both Hibernate or Shut Down from Start10 my computer goes all kinds of FUBAR.

A shutdown will be attempted but simply won't work with apps closing but the computer never progressing to actually turning off. Nothing works; attempting from the original Start Menu nor "shutdown /i" do nothing. I have to resort to ending important system tasks in Task Manager until I deliberately force a BSOD and wait for my PC to reboot at which point I can turn it off 'safely'.

Hibernating just leaves my computer with a black screen. I need to Ctrl Alt Del and such until I can get the log-in screen to appear at which point I can hibernate via the button there.

I pin the blame on a Windows update but couldn't tell you which. Start10 used to work fine with both of these things and I liked the convenience of the old style button. Anyone else having such problems or have I broken something? Very strange. I do need to do more testing--I will shut down in the normal way tonight--so I'll report back if it's just my PC but I've never had these problems before.

Hello MagikGimp,

Would like to suggest to try purge and reinstall steps as mentioned here: https://forums.stardock.com/486022/start10-support-faq#reinstalling. Just make sure to re-download the latest version from your account. Reboot after the purged. Reinstall, and Reboot again after the installation. Retest it. Report back here.

Thank you,

False alarm. My computer was in a bit of bad state caused somewhat by my impatience. I did have a very slow HDD though and so I thought it was freezing on shutdown / restart. I've upgraded to an SSD now which makes so much of a difference.

On a separate note, and it is a small niggle: When you update Start10 next, can you possibly make sure to update the build number wherever this information is inputted (generated?) so that it appears correctly in Windows Explorer properties for the executable? It's a silly thing but it makes certain software report old versions by mistake and suchlike. (v1.5.0.0 is shown in Properties.) Cheers.

Versions on files are only updated when the files get changed which is why some will be older.

Any software which checks for versions should look at the config exe only.  Do you have an example of a product that is claiming something is older based on this version?

SUMo ( https://www.kcsoftwares.com/ ) was mentioned as having trouble with Windowblinds on another thread so I installed it out of interest and it reports v1.5.0.0 because it's looking at the main executable(s) for Start10.

Ah, I can see Start10Config.exe does report the correct version. I'll send a bug e-mail to the SUMo developers.
