Restored Snapshot Fences broken

I recently had to do a reinstall of my OS and I reinstalled Fences.

I had the original files in the AppData\Roaming\Stardock\Fences\Backups folder and placed the files from that folder saved from the old OS installation to the new one. The Snapshots showed up in the Fences configuration fine and I selected the most recent to restore from.

The problem is the fences when used with this restore did not show properly. The placement and sorting settings were correct, but the Fences' Labels and colors would not show at all and no changes in the settings seems to have an affect.

i.e. changing colors or hiding and enabling Labels left the Fences Label-less and colorless.

I have tried to use the purging tool from here https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#reinstalling and reinstall and try multiple Snapshots. If I restore from one of the desired snapshots and then restore back to the Preinstalled Snapshot then Fences start functioning as expected and react to color changes and label setting changes.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, from what I understand, Layout snapshot does not store setting for colours etc. I believe, it just save the items inside the fences, location and size of the Fences.

They are saved/restored on my PC, but maybe not when you transfer to another computer?

Yes, colors are saved and restored.

That is strange, It does not restore colors for me. Just to clarify, you are talking about Fences background colors, yes?

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

It does indeed work after a purge:

I wonder if you have a corrupt snapshot.

I was thinking it was possible I have a corrupt snapshot. Or the snapshots were from an older version and it isnt playing nice. I wouldn't know for sure though.

It should restore colors, sorting, and other settings. In fact it does restore the sorting that I had set on each different fence.

I'd honestly be fine with the colors mostly but the main issue is that while it remembers the position, size, title, and sorting of the fences, Im unable to make any changes to the "restored" fences. Or even newly created fences when I use one of my restored layouts. The titles of the fences won't show and disabling and re-enabling the titles does not get them to. If I change the color on the "restored" fences then they stay completely transparent with no change to the color. Again this all applies to newly created fences once I have restored from the old layout.

All that weird behavior returns to normal if I then restore to the Pre-Installed Snapshot that Fences comes with.

I think I was able to reproduce what you are seeing...

A snapshot will restore with color and text if current Fences are uniform:
https://cdn.stardock.us/support/uploads/2021-01-18_10-18-53.mp4

However, if you change the color and text options for individual Fences, load a prior snapshot with different \ uniform text and color, it does not restore it's color and text options

I have placed an internal ticket to have it looked at.

Thank you for the feedback.
