CursorFX 4.03

I upgraded from CursorFX Plus to CursorFX 4.03 and noticed several problems listed below.

1) CPU usage of CursorFX 4.03 is 2-3x higher than CursorFX Plus. It uses around 5-10% of the CPU, most of the time it's 7-8% when there is no cursor movement. CursorFX Plus used around 1-3%. This is when using the ECube theme.

2) The preview window is different than the actual cursor when settings have been applied. The cursor looks darker than the preview even when I disable or turn down darkness all the way. This is when using the ECube theme.

3) When opening CursorFX 4.03 the cursor animation stops. I have to apply the cursor again for the animation to start. This is when using the ECube theme.

I uninstalled CursorFX Plus prior to installing CursorFX 4.03. My system specs are Intel Core i7-4785T, 8GB RAM, Windows 10 Enterprise 20H2 (x64). The main concern is with the CPU usage, it's way too high. As such, I have uninstalled CursorFX 4.03 and reinstalled CursorFX Plus. Will CursorFX 4.03 receive updates to address any of these issues?

  1. I don't see the CPU loading that high. I saw it at around 0-0.2% only. Refer to below screenshot
  2. I saw this too. I've forward your finding to the Stardock Support Team for the review and recommendation.
  3. I can't recreate this issue. What do your mean by "When opening CursorFX 4.03 the cursor animation stops"?

Thank you,

1. It's good to see that the CPU usage is low for you. Did you install CursorFX 4.03 using a key code (direct install) or from Steam? My install is from Steam, I don't have an in-app key code. Perhaps the extra code in CursorFX 4.03 to support the Steam marketplace might be causing the performance issue. I do notice when I open up the CursorFX 4.03 app that it does a Steam check. The CursorFX Plus that I have uses an in-app key code, direct install, so isn't installed using Steam.

2. Just wanted to add that the way CursorFX 4.03 displays the E-Cube theme is also different than CursorFX Plus. Same issue as with the preview, cursor looks darker.

3. When I open the CursorFX 4.03 app the active cursor animation stops (cursor displays a static image of the E-Cube). I have to re-apply the same CursorFX theme to get the cursor to animate again. Perhaps the extra code to support the Steam marketplace is also causing this issue as well since the Steam check is done when opening the CursorFX 4.03 app.

Hello,

1. From what I know, It should not be any different if its CursorFX from Steam, the activation only happened once. And Steam needed to be loaded only for activation purpose. Once CursorFX activated, Steam no longer needed to be loaded for CursorFX. Try disable shadows and see if it help on your system.

3. Try the purge and reinstall steps as mentioned here : https://forums.stardock.com/485856/cursorfx-support-faq#reinstalling , please follow the steps for Steam only and reboot after the purge and another after the reinstall.

1. The CPU usage is normal after I disabled Darkness. I tried disabling it before but just to see if it changed the cursor darkness issue. I can't remember if I had Darkness turned on or not with CursorFX Plus, I would have to re-install to check. But it's surprising to see such a large hit in CPU usage with Darkness enabled, which is enabled by default in CursorFX.

3. I ran the purge script as admin and re-installed CursorFX 4.03 from Steam. The animated cursor no longer stops when opening CursorFX 4.03 and I also don't get the Steam pop-up window that I was getting before.

If you can post here once there is a fix or update for item 2 that would be great. Likewise if the Darkness setting is optimized so the CPU usage isn't so high. Thanks for your timely assistance, it's appreciated.
