Two Instances of Fences in Control Panel, Programs and Features

I just installed Fences 3 from Steam on Windows 10. There seem to be two instances of Fences installed on my computer now.

From the Windows 10 Control Panel's Uninstall or change a program listing:

Instance #1
Name: Fences
Publisher: Stardock
Installed On: 3.1.2021
Size:
Version:
Help link: https://help.steampowered.com/
Support link: https:/www.stardock.com/products/fences/

Instance #2
Name: Stardock Fences 3
Publisher: Stardock Software, Inc.
Installed On: 3.1.2021
Size:
Version: 3.09
Help link: http://www.stardock.com
Support link: http://www.stardock.com

I have not had anything like this happen before. Is this expected behavior?

I did uninstall Fences 2 fully before installing Fences 3 - including clearing the local Fences 2 license and rebooting before installing Fences 3. Fences 2 was not a Steam installation but bought here instead.

When I search for the Fences program on my computer search bar, only one instance comes up. Fences 3 seems to behave otherwise normally so far.

The file seems to be impossible to download. I tried three different browsers. Some security issues with it, it seems. When I click resume/continue downloading despite the security warning, it gives a "network error". Not sure if my router blocks it. Is there an alternative way to download the purge file?

I was finally able to dowload the bat file on another computer at another location, ran it and reinstalled Fences on Steam. Again, two instances of fences in the Windows installed programs listing.

basj's reply implied that is not expected behavior. Can I have confirmation on that?

When you done the purge, before the reinstall, is there any Fences still listed in there?

No, there were no Fences at all. The two Fences came back when I did the reinstallation from Steam.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

For some reason, Fences is the only one that shows twice where other Steam apps of ours (Groupy, Cutains, etc) do not.

I have placed an internal ticket to have it looked at.

Internal ref: ODNT-1421

Thanks for the feedback.

Thank you for the reply. If it's not too much trouble, I'd appreciate if you could chime in here when there are new developments.

I'm also experiencing a similar issue: Infrequently (though enough to be troublesome), my Windows 10 system will slow to a crawl. Sometimes this is due to anti-virus checking software, but when the Task Manager is opened, I find 2 Processes for 'Fences Settings' in the list, tying up 100% of the CPU.

Is this expected behavior?

I'm using Fences 3.0.9.11

Thanks, David

I ran the purge bat and re-installed. We'll see if that corrects the issue. thanks

I completed the purge.bat and reinstalled on July 12. Today (July 19), my Windows 10 system slowed to a crawl. In the Task Manager, you see two instances of 'Fences Settings' tying up 100% of the CPU. I have to manually End these Tasks.

Any other suggestions?
