How do I display icon larger than 72 dpi?

I downloaded some Mac icons that support up to 120 dpi, but windows only lets me get to 72 dpi max. I heard from Xero that displaying icons beyond 72 dpi is possible by editing the registry. Please tell me how to do it.

In XP:
- Right click on desktop, choose Properties
- In the Settings tab, click on Advanced
- General Tab, under Display choose "Large size (120 dpi)"

Use DesktopX (run its IconX) and you can have icons any size you want them on the desktop.

He's not talking about size but about resolution, I believe.
But in the end it indeed comes down to size. If you change your screen resoltion to 1280 x 1024 for example, the resolution is better, but everything is smaller. That's where you can change how many dots per inch XP will display. If you increase it to 120 dots per inch (the default for XP being 96), your display will then keep the quality of your higher resolution but will be bigger (25% bigger).

But frostchen, if you want to change ONLY the icon's dpi, it's not possible. A resolution is applied to a whole screen not just a specific area. The same way as you can't set only the icons the be displayed at 1280 x 1024.

So, he doesn't want his icons at 120 dpi, but at 120 pixels in size?

he probably want´s them at 128. dpi in an icon file does not make sense, neither on a Mac or PC. at most times it´s better to "scan" posts rather than reading them, 90% of all people don´t have a real clue what they are typing anyways. ain´t VirtualPlastic here

Yeah, IconX can do the same thing (on any OS) but it only effects the desktop
icons (128 would be a bit annoying in folders) and you can unload it (no reg
edit) if you don't like it or want to change the size.  However, if you
want them system wide, IconX won't do that.  (I can't help pushing it
because I use it at work and home and like the zoomer effects that you can get
from it.....just fun to play with!)
