Outlook 365/Outlook 2016 crashing

Hi,

I have been having problems with Outlook 365 and it has been driving me crazy for several weeks, finally today I may have some information that may help.

My problem has mainly been in Outlook 365. Mostly whenever I hover over the attachment it crashes Outlook. I spent weeks trying everything until today never suspected CursorFX. So without going thru all the things I have tried this is how I figured it's CursorFX, even after turning all add-on off (in Outlook), running Outlook in safe mode and nothing worked, I started to suspect that it only crashes when the mouse pointer is over the attachment file name even before I tried to click on it. At first I thought it was just PDF attachment but then soon discovered it was any file type and the common thing is hovering over the attachment name. I was about to uninstall CursorFX but decided to try something, I changed from the Cursor theme I was using to Windows default cursor theme went back into Outlook and hovered over the attachment and to my surprise it didn't crash I was able to open the attachment. Went back to CursorFX and selected a completely different theme it crashed again, went back to Windows default theme works. My guess maybe there is a conflict between CursorFX and Outlook. So for now I am using the Windows default cursor theme but really like CursorFX and hope you can find a solution soon. BTW, I still have CursorFX installed but using Windows default pointer theme.

BTW, I had the free version for some time before you added it to the Object Desktop then deleted it and installed the beta 4.0 then the latest one 4.03 from Object Desktop. I haven't done any purging you suggested else or uninstalled 4.03 or downloaded it from my account yet, if you think that would help I will try it for now I will wait till the next update. I also think my Words crashed too but not sure now since I use Outlook more than Words.

My current configuration -

  • Windows 10 Version 1909 (OS Build 18363.752)
  • CursorFx 4.03
  • 32GB RAM
  • 512GB SSD
  • nVidia GeForce GTX 770 with 4GB

If you need any additional info please let me know.

Thanks.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I can't reproduce your issue on my system. Please try purge and reinstall steps as mentioned here : https://forums.stardock.com/485856/cursorfx-support-faq#reinstalling

Just to be sure, re-download the latest version from your account. Reboot after the purge, reinstall and reboot after it. Retest and report back.

Thanks

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

Unless I am testing differently than the OP, I cant reproduce it either:

What I did notice was the preview is hosed for some of the on hover events:

The one that was not Abracadabra or 6502.  If you select that one, does it not crash?

If you disable any effects \ trails \ shadows, do any work then?

Hi Sean,

That did it. When I disabled the shadow effect it stopped crashing. Wonder why.

I will post a video shortly of what happens when it crashes maybe that will help.

FYI, I have updated my video driver, Windows updates, even ran Outlook in safe mode nothing helped except for turning effect off now.

Does this help you figure out what's going on, why it crashes with the effects on? Is it related to video driver? If so is there something I could change on nVidia driver to allow me to enable effects without crashing?

Thanks.

Unclear - would like to hear from Patrick on the other thread (and I asked).

But what I would still like from you is that if any 'effect' / 'trails' / animated cursors cause the issue or just shadow.

Thank you for the report and effort.

Hi Sean,

When I enable Trails that seems to be OK even Sounds. When I enable Effects that causes another problem, when I double click on the email I want to open there is a very long delay before it opens. When I disable Effects (None) it opens right away.

I have attached a video hopefully a picture (or in this case video) is worth a thousand words. I guess I can't attach a video or any attachment unless I am missing something. Let me know if there is a way to upload a video and I will do so.

Thanks for your quick replies.

Upload it to a cloud service (GoogleDrive, OneDrive, YouTube, DropBox) and post a shared link here.
