Recent Items Fence

Cannot Exclude Folders...

The "Recent Items" menu entry in my Start10 menu is great - it lists all the recent files I have accessed - documents, music, videos, etc.  One day I thought "Wouldn't it be great to have another fence on my desktop that contained this Recent Items list, and it would save me a couple of clicks every time I want to access one."  And so I right-clicked on it and lo and behold there is an option to move it to the desktop as a fence. Job done!

But then I discovered that while the "Recent Items" in Start10 only displays files by default, the Recent Items fence displays absolutely everything - every single folder you open to get to something gets listed in there.  This makes for a pointless list, and it also crowds out the files that you might actually want to find and open.  It has killed the concept, unfortunately, making this fence function useless.  I have searched for a way to change this, but it does not seem to be an option, i.e. it appears to be coded into either this software or Windows 10 at a level a simple user can not adjust.

Has anyone else tried this and figured out how to make it work?  I would appreciate any tips.

Cheers!

Hello,
I believe there is no such option in Fences to do that. But, I have forward your request to the Stardock Support Team for their review and recommendations. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We really do appreciate your feedback.
Thanks.

When you say you don't think Fences can do that, I wasn't sure if you meant creating the Recent Items fence or controlling what appears within it. So I enclose two screenshots illustrating what I did to create a Recent Items fence:

First, right-click on the Recent Items menu option, and choose "Show this folder on the desktop" from the context menu...

Start10 Menu options

When I did that I expected a folder shortcut to appear on my desktop, but that's not what happened.  Instead, this fence appeared:

Stardock Recent Items fence

And this is great - we're almost there with a very convenient shortcut. But unlike the Recent Items in the Start10 menu which only lists files, this Recent Items fence also lists the folders you open to get to your files, every single time you open a folder or work down through a tree of folders each one appears here.  Soon all your files are crowded out by all the folders, and the whole thing becomes unusable.

I tried playing around with some settings in Windows 10's Folder Options, and that works for Windows folders and search results and Quick Access and so on, but it has no affect on what is displayed in this Fence.

If you could figure out a way to fix this "bug" it would render quite a useful thing to the Stardock Fences product - I imagine a number of users would like to have their recent files just one click away on their desktop.

Cheerio,

Edd

Hello,

I know a Portal Fences name "Recent Items" will be created once you did the Right click on Recent items on Start10 -> "Show this folder on desktop". Just that, the portal fences will always display what ever are inside the original Folder of "Recent Items" C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent. But that is not a bug, that is how Portal Fences work. Just a portal to the real folder. What ever inside that folder will be display on that Portal Fence.

That is why I send in your request to Support Team for they to consider it as a Feature request for future development. But, I can't promise if or when it will be implemented.

Thank you,

Thanks for looking into it for me.  I was just puzzled because if we can hide the folders in the start menu's Recent Items list we ought to be able to hide them in this fence too, regardless of which of those ways we are using to access the actual Windows "Recent Items" folder.  I look forward to that feature if and when it appears! Many thanks.
