Avant Browser - does anyone else find this browser slow?

I'm trying out the Avant Browser that was mentioned on the news page the other day. I'm finding that it is considerably slower than IE, in fact some pages won't even load on Avant Browser but they load immediately when I use IE.

Has anyone else experienced this or know of any fixes. This seems like a nice browser, but at this point I'm going to go back to IE unless this I can solve this problem.

Thanks.

It should be the same speed as IE.

That's what I would of thought. However I'm trying to load http://www.ezprints.com in Avant and it takes forever. If I try and load it in IE, it comes right up. If you could try this web page and report back, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

No, indeed Avant Go is much slower. Actually I found that it gets slower as you use it, until you close it down completely and then reopen it. My guess is that it keeps some sort of history in memory.

I used to love AG, but I stopped using it cause it was really starting to tick me off. Went back to IE, and AHHHHH! What a difference.

How much RAM you got YMark? Cause I don't have much at home (128) and I do notice the slowdown, while at work (1 G of RAM), the reduction in speed is hardly noticable.

Again, in my experience, when Avant Go freshly opens it runs as fast as IE. But it gets slower and slower, even if you close all your windows but keep AG opened in your systray. I have to close the process completely then restart it to get my speed back.

It took a while for me in IE, frankly. That may be my current connection though. Avant reportedly had some memory leaks and cpu usage issues? Which may have been addressed in the most recent release according to comments on their forum. (I haven't upgraded to the 8 Avant series yet. I use Avant at work mostly because they have set up IE in such a manner that I can't use my ad blocking local proxy with it. Otherwise I'd use IE most of the time.)

I have 512 meg of memory, running XP. I think paxx and sig101 are on to something. If I shut down Avant, I was able to load the page. This is a nice browser but it definately has some problems. I'm going to give it a try for a few days and then make a decision.

Does anyone know of a web page that has Avant Browser discussions? The Avant Browser web page is gone.

Thanks again for the help.

Yeah, you're not the only one who can't get to the Avant home page. May be a DNS issue? Anyway, I can get to the forum: http://forum.avantbrowser.com/YaBB.cgi

I found it quite fast, but when I installed it, it wiped out my bookmarks, cookies and passwords. I'm sure it wasn't designed to do this so I'll chalk it up to a glitch.
