theme xp

this site is great!!! right now though they are switching servers and the site is down. when it comes back up, you HAVE to see this site. forget DA, theme xp.org is awesome and there are great great wwalls, logons, etc etc. dont forget to check this out. WC need some work in my opinion. the way things are done these days, is idont know what to exactly say. the wallpaper section is getting a little different. the quality and originality is getting to almost nil. this is my opinion. just seems like these days anyone that does a wall gets accepted. when i frst started here about 2 years ago, the wallpaper section was one of a kind and somewhat still is today. now its just the same of the same to me. seeing apocalypse leave is sad and i think more and more people will leave. thats just what i think.

Er, as much as I like ThemeXP, and I do, their their wallpaper section is certainly nothing special. It's the same stuff you'll find on any other wallpaper site. There's no moderation whatsoever.

i have to say that maybe your right about the wallpaper section frogboy, but wc seems like there getting to that point these days. i am just trying to state my opinion on this thats all. thanks for the comment.

Without trying to stir things up,and get too detailed, I must say that Themexp.org is not even a marginal fraction of what WC is. For starters, I have several walls on there that are doing pretty well in the d'load categories. I used that site as a dumping ground for some walls that were moderated here. While they seem to be doing well, nobody seems to comment on anything.
Second, they are pretty much focused on TGTSoft products,(I understand that TGTSoft owns ThemeXP) and do not diversify outside of that with the exception of walls. But hey, WC doesn't promote Visual Styles either, so it's a slight trade.

I do wish them success though, and I like the site overall, but it is just not up to par at this time compared with WC and DA. I saw recently that they were recruiting web designers proficient with PhP so maybe it will come around someday.

Just my opionion..

PS - forgive my lousy spelling tonight

I thought Themexp was a cool site. The site design was sharp amd modern. They had what appeared to be some good "stuff" too. Too bad I couldnt get at it.
To kinda sum it up, i would modify a broadband catchphrase and call it "Blazing Slow". I remembered my dial-up connection as being faster. I simply couldnt insult my cable modem by asking it to perform at such slow speeds. I could be wrong. I seem to recall something about this guy Einstein. He had some nutty notion called "Relativity". Perhaps, my cable modem was working so well, downloading info so fast as to cause a relativistic effect, whereby, the Themexp site would load at lightspeed so that I would actually be viewing the internet at a time before the pages loaded, hence, I would see nothing. Just a theory. Then again, they could just be really slow

Phoon: You raise a really interesting issue.

WC has taken an immense amount of grief over the years because WC is so "Stardock oriented" even though only a fraction of the sections here are for Stardock's software.  ThemeXP, on the other hand, is all TGTSoft stuff.  I have no problem with that, but it's interesting that no one seems to have a problem with that.

For example, Dokt left WC over this issue:

https://www.wincustomize.com/msgboard.asp?BID=WC&id=57261#58820

And what's worse, Dokt is the one who writes those nasty anti-Stardock reviews for PC Answers magazine (Andy H).

BTW, he refers to ThemeXP as a "community" site. This is a pretty typical examle of the double standard we see.

"WinCustomize is biased for Stardock, not a community site, etc. Why can't it be more like ThemeXP?"

I USED to think that WC was pretty much only here to support the Stardock line, until I started opening my yap in the recent war. An admin pointed out my flawed concepts and after reviewing thing more closely, I see that WC is soooo much more indeed.

I like ThemeXP. Although I don't care for the wallpapers or themes (except the ThemeXP theme, which is really cool, and I wish it was updated), I love the logons at that site. I like seeing Sarah Michelle Gellar when I wake up in the morning.

reason why ThemeXP is slow is cuz there's five times more people visiting the site than any other likewise sites.

It is still the reality that the majority of Wallpapers submitted to Wincustomize.com do not succeed/are not accepted.

What 'may' have changed is that on average the 'quality' of submissions has improved through experiential determination.....eg.....people soon wise to the reality that "I made this in 5 seconds cos I was bored to my gourd" will guarantee rejection....and "I found this pic somewhere and tried out my new skillz with PS and filterz" will get nowhere fast as well.

There's considerably fewer "Bryce button push frenzies...gee I made a Torus", less piccies of Aunt Sally, and more submissions that actually might just work well as backgrounds for window/icon/bar placements, etc.....you know, what a 'wallpaper' section is supposed to have...
