groupyctrl preventing shutdown

Hi

Sometimes, not always, I get a message on shutdown saying that groupyctrl is preventing shutdown.  Any thoughts on what the issue is please.

Are you restarting your computer very soon after logging in?

Also does Windows indicate anything else is also not closing as it might be an interaction between the two.

We have made a change to the upcoming 1.3 release which might help this based on a guess as to what might be going on for you.

Hopefully it will resolve it for you when it is released, but if not please let us know.  I anticipate release later this month.

Hi thanks for the reply.  It happens at odd times and I can't see a linking factor.  I look forward to the next update.

Just wanted to add that 1.25 is causing Shutting Down or restarting to be slow.  When installed my system takes 01:49 to restart or shut down.  When uninstalled, it takes my system 0:08 seconds.

This has been showing up for me with Groupy 2 within the past few weeks, so far about 4x now.

Hi Basj,

Using your link, here is my System information (screenshot). I don't have any crashes, so I don't have any dump files to send. I tried looking in the Event Viewer but since it is waiting for the program to end, there is no log for that listed. Reproducing this is just merely shutting down the computer and happens about 90% of the time. I have not uninstalled/reinstalled the program yet. The issue has come up almost every night on shutdown. Windows has shutdown eventually on its own, but it does show this on shutdown (screenshot).

Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

What apps do you have grouped at the time as it may be one of them blocking Groupy from closing fully.

It says "Invalid uninstall control file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Groupy\Uninstall\uninstall.xml"

My program is Groupy 2, so probably why it is kicking that error for 1.

Secondly, I have Malwarebytes running in the background, and it did not like your CMD running.

I edited the bat file and renamed Stardock\Groupy\ to Stardock\Groupy2\ and re-ran the bat, and it did what it needed to do. I had Malwarebytes exited as well. But for now, I am going to leave it uninstalled and see if I even miss it. It was only the last Groupy2 update that gave me that exe hanging when rebooting too. I always have all programs and windows closed before I shutdown for the night. When I do reinstall, I will let you know when I do, and if/when it comes back.

I did a clean reinstall of Groupy 2 several weeks ago again, and 50% of the time, upon shutting down the computer, or rebooting, I do still get the GroupyCtrl is preventing the computer from shutting down. Eventually it goes away and does its thing. Just super annoying.
