Start 8

Disappeared

I've used Start 8 for 5 years. It disappeared, my start up now is a purple Windows screen requiring my password. Unable to reactivate Start 8 I bought it again and downloaded it. It doesn't ask me for my product key, rebooting doesn't solve anything. How do I get Start 8 working again? Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please use the purge and reinstall steps mentioned here : https://forums.stardock.com/486022/start10-support-faq#reinstalling

Just make sure to re-download the lastest version of Start8 from your account. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall it and reboot again. Retest and report back here.

I did the purge, rebooted, downloaded again, entered the product key, rebooted and the purple Windows screen is still appearing. I had to disable Malwarebytes to access the purge program. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

 Please post the "purple screen" screenshot here. And also

Please try the following:

-For Win8/10 Users: Open the Start Screen, and type 'cmd'. Right-click on the search result and select 'Run as administrator' from below.

-For 7 Users: click Start, in the start search field type 'cmd'. Right-click on the search result and select 'Run as administrator'.

-Type: sfc /scannow

-Wait for the scan to complete (this can take several minutes)

If the SFC finds errors, but cannot fix them, please also run the following command in the same command prompt window:

dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

The above command should assist with replacing any damaged or problematic system files. Please note, however, since it may require restoring certain files, this process can take some time and you will need to be patient until it has completed.
