Taskbar Icons

Icons disappear

Hello,

The first time I upgraded to version 1.75 of Start 10, I experienced a lost of all my taskbar icons (except clock).

I had to go through very difficult tricks found on the web to make them reappear. Since then, it worked fine.

Yesterday, I experienced the same odd problem: no icons. The tricks I used last time  didn't resolve this problem.

Even the uninstallation of Start 10 (I was suspecting the problem was caused by this program) didn't resolve it!

So, today, I re-installed Start 10 (older version) and all the icons reappeared !?!? Even the update back to version 1.75 worked fine! Until when?

This meaning Start 10 was the origin of this odd behaviour!

Can you give me an explanation?

Thanks

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know more information.

1) Your current windows 10 version. Please use Winver.exe for full version numbers.

2) What version of Start10 you down grade to?

3) Screenshot of that missing icons.

Thanks

Hello,

My Windows 10 version is 1903 (18362.295)

The version of Start 10 I installed after uninstallation must be 1.71b as the setup file mentions.

I'm not sure what you mean by asking a screenshot of the missing icons! ??? I wouldn't dream to take a screenshot of the missing icons! It would mean my system is broken for the 3rd time!

Thanks anyway

When you have it again. Please take a screenshot and post it here. I have not read any other report similar to yours and I can't recreate the issue on my system. To help you, I need to know more on the problem.

Thank you,

I really don't see why you cannot visualize my description certainly as clear as a screenshot.

I'll try again.

The problem leaves a taskbar (bottom of the screen) with,

  • on the left, only the Start 10 icon (the Startup icon when I uninstalled Start 10) and the button serving to change desktops (don't know the name in English)
  • on the right, only the Clock icon (hour and date)

To be clear, all the apps icons I pinned to the left of the taskbar had disappeared as well as the volume, notification, etc. which were there before on the right corner.

Cannot be more specific: you know everything on the problem.

Best regards,

Hello,

Okay, I can visualize it but I can't recreate it. It must be something specific to your system since there is no others client having this issue. If it happen again in your system please try the purge and reinstall steps here :

https://forums.stardock.com/486022/start10-support-faq#reinstalling

Just make sure to re-download the latest version from your account. Reboot after the re-installation and retest.

Saying it's something specific to my system is an easy answer.

I should reply it's something specific to your program. (As I can see, jerrylawson has the same issue|-) )

Thank you for the purging tool!

OK!

The answer on my problem is of the same level to the answers to my Fences question: "We cannot help you".

As you ask for my advice, I should question your programmers about this problem.

At least, with my poor knowledge, I was able to find a solution.

I was just exposing the problem, believing seriously that your program was the culprit on this matter and to help your developers.

If you don't understand that, "tant pis" as we say in French.

Has the problem reappear? If it does, have you tried the solution suggested in reply#5?

Thanks

If you re-read my posts, you'll see that the problem was resolved.

I'll try your .bat file if it happens again.

So, I insist: as I solved the problem, the meaning of my post was just to make you aware of this problem so your programmers are able to correct it.

It's not the medication that is the most important, it's to find the cause of the disease!

Let's end this discussion.
