Object Desktop Manager beta install

Was informed there was an update to Groupy so I decided to update through Object Desktop Manager.  When I started OD Manager, it immediately updated itself to Version 4 Beta 2.  When I clicked the "Update" tab for Groupy OD Manager disappeared and nothing ever happened.  Tried a couple of times with same result.  Downloaded version 3.38 of OD Manager from Stardock website and was able to easily update Groupy from there.

Unfortunately, any time I launch OD Manager it tries to update to the Beta version.  Is there any way to turn off this behavior?  Would prefer to stick with version 3.38 if possible.

Hello,

I think you should be able to do that just by disable update checks.

I do not have automatic updates checked.  Looking for some other way to keep OD Manager from updating itself

And did you turn off that "Silently install new software (if applicable)" options.

Silently install new software is also unchecked.   Same thing happens on my other PC also.  There does not appear to be a way to stop OD Manager from updating itself.  I wouldn't mind if it worked properly, but as I said, clicking on "update" for any program just makes the Manager disappear and nothing happens after that.

Very frustrating

Hello,

Yes apparently it does autoupdate itself this morning on my PC while I also have those two options disable. I have forward this problem to Stardock Support team for their recommendation on the matter.

But I, also did not see any problem on using ODM 4.0 beta 2. For example, we have WindowFX update today. And it appear on my ODM 4 beta 2. I clicked on the update and it work. It do take few seconds for the Update button to change to downloading status bar after I click it. But it proceed and install for me the latest WindowFX without issue. Could you try this and see if you still having problem as you mention on updating Groupy yesterday. It might be just one time thing.

Try it and let us know.

Thank you,

Thanks Basj.  I will say that the Beta version worked fine on one computer, but on my other it just disappears after hitting "update".  On that computer it exhibited the same behavior for updates for both "Groupy" and "Tweak7".  Clearly another program interfering with the Beta.  That's why I would like to be able to easily continuing version 3, which updates programs without any problems.

The server was inadvertently set to force updates for Object Desktop Manager.  I have turned that off for now so you should be able to continue to run with v3.38.

At this point, Object Desktop Manager should be trying to re-launch itself in an elevated admistrator mode.  Are you canceling out of the dialog asking you for elevated permissions? Also, If you will, please located the log file at C:\Users\{USERNAME}\AppData\Roaming\Stardock\ObjectDesktop\ObjectDesktop_Log.txt then create a support ticket and attach the log file.  Hopefully there will be some information in the log that will help us determine what is causing the problem.

Thanks for the info.  OD Manager never seems to get to the elevated administrator mode.  No dialog appears.  Manager just disappears from the screen and does not return.  I will send the .txt file later today.

Thanks again

Followup.

As a possible workaround, start Object Desktop Manager in Admistrative mode.  This can be done by right clicking on the Object Desktop Manager icon and select the "Run as administrator" option.
