Activation screen appears for a split second when desktop appears

Sorry to hear you are having issues. That never happened to me. Could try Fences purge and reinstall steps : https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#reinstalling

Just make sure to reboot after the purge. Re-download Fences latest version from your account. Reinstall that version, reboot and retest. Report back here.

After the purge and rebooting the screen still flashes for a second.   Reinstalled version 3 and still flashes.  I can live with it, but annoying.  Obviously something Is left over from a previous version.

I once had Object Desktop installed ( if that could be it?)

I don't think that have any effect on Fences activation fences.

Could try these steps :

Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time. A "Run" dialog box will pop up, please paste the path below into the "Open" field and press OK.

%ProgramData%\Stardock\

In the folder that pops up, you should see a folder named FENCES. Please delete this folder and all of its contents.

After you have deleted that folder, please attempt to activate once again and it should succeed without any errors.

and see if the split second activation screen appear again. Report back.

I deleted the fences3 folder, reactivated and rebooted.  The  activation screen still appears for a brief second in the upper left hand corner.  Thanks, it was worth a try.
