Issue With Saved Groups

Regrouping, Multiple Browser Profiles, Word Docs

When I save groups, ESPECIALLY browsers, most do not regroup when I open them.
I run 3 Vivaldi browser profile accounts and it opens 1 as the correct user and then opens 2 separate ones as fresh new windows.

But it also doesn't group many of the other ones, opening them all separate, even worse are Microsoft word documents.

I regularly run 6-10 tabs for each group, on 3 browsers and there has to be a better way.
I am starting to look into using QuickAccessPopup to try to open applications/files if there is not a tweak to this in Groupy

I recently just built this desktop, so there are little extra changes that would interfere.

  1.  I made sure to have the setting "Continue running background apps when Vivaldi is closed" enabled as that was one issue, I know Adobe PDFs have issues (not concerned there)
  2. Turned off "open new blank document in Word/Excel rather than recent documents"
  3. I do not have "only group windows of the same application or type with each other" checked

Any help to get at least most of them to open grouped or if there is a better saved group function app out there that works, an api fix w/e

I would still use Groupy because the Tab feature is invaluable!

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

Many browsers have know issues for opening in a saved group - Chrome and Firefox are such browsers.  As Vivaldi is chromium based, it would also suffer the same as Chrome.

It is not enough to have that setting, you need to ensure that every instance of Vivaldi is closed in task manager - only then will it open properly in a saved group.

For Word and Excel, I am not seeing any issues with Office365 apps:

Thanks, I have closed Vivaldi Browsers before saving my session to Groupy and most of the programs now group together correctly, several do not, like fontcreater12.0, scrapple, Scrivener, ShareX, and a couple of others....or they group with just 1 other program and not the majority. In general, it seems they do go back onto the correct monitor now.

Not sure which programs now have this but if the program has a popup, like continue evaluation or something, does that prevent grouping. (only 2 would fall under this but was curious).

Also, would there be a way to add a saved group as a startup program to have all the programs/specific documents open when I start my computer?

You could write a batch file to open a saved group and add it to 'Startup'

Saved groups are stored in:

\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Saved Groups

I didn't even think about that, thank you! I have the saved group folder currently as a shortcut, so this would save several steps. Eventually would look to have the newest 3 groups replace the old ones for startup but I dont have that capacity.

Hi, the batch file has worked to open them but I still run into issues with initially grouping Todoist, linkman Pro, Tabbles, pushbullet, excel, NVIDA control panel, Powerpoint to their respective tab group.

It groups PDF creator, maintype, font creator, speedcrunch, filezilla together...but separates the word docs/excel/powerpoint/windows features/reddplanet together into a 2nd group on that monitor

Doesn't Open:  2nd document of Scrivener(which may be like how browsers have issues), but doesn't open Notezilla or ShareX, which only get sent to the taskbar.

I have tested this w/o the batch file, in 3 separate groups (1 for each monitor), without including my browsers, and still same result.

*also, is there a way to see if a program is ungrouped on any or a specific monitor?

Or that some programs do not group at all? F1000 is one such example but there are a ton of programs/screens that dont show the ability to?

I use PDF Xchange editor for pdf and saved group doesn't work for this pdf editor. It never opens my save pdf group.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Could you post the saved group here. You can open it using notepad

Saved groups are stored in:

These 3 saved groups have fewer items grouped than normal but in general the ones that don't group together are

  1. Pushbullet
  2. Excel
  3. Amazon Music
  4. Todoist

Anything that goes to the taskbar like ShareX or the current one I use Notezilla Notes Browser, does not open up in a tabbed file but "opens" to the taskbar.

I have found the work around for opening multiple Word, Scrivener, Excel, or Powerpoint documents (not all used in this file) by opening them with separate groups (aka 1 on monitor1, 2nd on 2, 3rd on 3)  but often they don't group with the main ones.

The browsers were still an issue but not have tested having them in a group file in awhile using the same method (as I have 3 separate Vivaldi accounts use, 1 for each monitor)

Batchfiles worked to an extent but had similar problems.
