Did you use the standalone installer or Object Desktop Manager to install?

In any event, you should be able to reinstall and it should update properly.

I have the same issue, updated with SD, asked to reboot - > 10.74 in the WB -> About. SD shows 10.80 is installed though. Also when I try to "check updates" from WB, there's no updates found. I tried to re-install the latest version by downloading the installer from my downloads, it also updaes just fine, asks to reboot etc. Still after reboot the WB about still shows .74

I really don't want to purge the installation and the re-install as I loose all the exceptions etc.

Uninstall from the control panel Programs and Features, reboot. Download from your Stardock account and install. Put in your Reg number and don't apply any skins and reboot.

It seems to be difficult to make a working installer eh?

I updated when the application prompted me, was still 10.74, but then I downloaded it from my downloads, and it now says 10.8.   Lesson:   Don't use the app prompt to update.

On another note, I'm back to 3 black screens every time I load a WB.

What do you mean black screen Jim? Black wallpaper or total monitor black out?

Thank you,

Did you alter your Deskscapes install?

Reply #12 Top

Neil, DeskScapes hasn't been altered other than turned off, and DisplayFusion is still uninstalled.  This began happening after installing 10.8 from My Downloads.

I am having the same issue with updating to version 10.8 where "About" in the app's navigation pane sill showing 10.74.  Checking for updates doesn't seem to work since the time I bought the software. It never found any update "You are running the latest version" is always the result. I really love this app and I would be happy to see it work like a charm.

Now, the biggest problem, as seemed to be always the case with any Feature Update from Windows, the 1903 FU from May 21st doesn't play well with WindowBlinds. When I click any folder in the navigation pane of File Explorer, the latter just shuts down. If I uninstall WindowBlinds, everything works fine. I think another update from Stardock is in order just like last time.

Uninstall Windowblinds, reboot (important)

Download WB 10.8 from your store downloads.

Install it.

Reboot and your issue should be gone.

My issue seems to have been caused by Windows Update, and solved by the following Windows Update, go figger.

@Neil Banfield,

Thanks for the suggestion. I shall have a go at it and will post back to let you know whether or not it worked. BTW, I rolled back with a system image backup my version of Win 10 1903 to 1809 which I am on right now at the time of this writing. Main reasons: WindowBlinds is not working properly in 1903 + Edge refuses to launch no matter what even after Repair or Reset.

How are you informed that WB is the cause?  Could you post any screenshots / video of the error?

@Neil Banfield,

Keeping up with my promise to post back, I did try your suggestion and it worked. I am now at version 10.8. Tip of the hat and thanks.

One thing left to be worked on is the compatibility issue of WindowBlinds with 1903 aka 19H1. I am pretty sure that as more and more users take the leap into installing it and if they are also using WindowBlinds, you will certainly hear from them.

Cheers!:)

I have been using WB on 1903 for several weeks with no know issues (there were some but were resolved some time ago).

That said, if you do seen any, we would appreciate any feedback you could provide.

Thanks for the update and support.

@sdRohan,

The only problem I had was explained in reply #13 and I quote: "When I click any folder in the navigation pane of File Explorer, the latter just shuts down. If I uninstall WindowBlinds, everything works fine".  Now that I have rolled back to 1809, I definitely cannot reproduce the problem, but it was the same issue with 1803 or 1809 if you remember, to the point in one of your posts back then, you said that a fix was coming as far as I can recall.

There was an issue if the preview pane was also visible - some time ago - but that was fixed.  We are not seeing any remaining issue nor have we any other reports.

When you do go back to 1903, can you post a video of that happening - I want to see exactly what you are doing and any settings you have for WinExp.

@sdRohan,

This is not going to be any time soon, because I have paused updates for at least 60 days in "Updates & Security" > Check for Updates > Advanced options. For sure, I will remember to post a video when I go back to 1903 if the issue is still happening at the time.

Remember, I am not saying that this issue with WB is the main reason why I rolled back from 1903 to 1809, since there are other bugs with this latest FU (Feature Update) from MS. Right now, as we speak WB is running super fine in 1809 and I am really happy with it.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Cheers! |-)

The BACK button is not working when you open Windows Settings and make a menu selection. It also seems to me it's in the wrong place...just sayin'...

I got the same thing in mine. Back button not working.
