Start10 search is *incredibly* slow and ramps processor (4.5GHz 4c) to 100%, takes up to a minute to search for anything.

y u no index?

Hey there,

Great software and I love everything about it except what happens when I tap the windows key and start typing. The search is, well calling it unusable would be rude but it's definitely not good and I'd go so far as to label it "borderline functional."

Let me give you some context to back my complaint: I'm running all of this on a fast SSD, I'm also running an 8GB block level ram cache in front of that so at the very least after the first walk through the search path and file contents Start10 should *at least* be able to pull whatever it's looking for from my cache.

.. But it doesn't. I could probably trace the code path and figure out exactly what it's doing but I ain't gettin' a check for that so, yeah.

Anyway, could you please at least have the search function create and reference an index? That'd be nice, I've basically stopped searching with start10 and using right-win exclusively when I need to quickly find something and that basically defeats the purpose of installing your software in the first place.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to Start10 being even better!

PS: If you'd like me to trace this and find a perfect repro I'm happy to hire out as freelance QA, just let me know.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Not seeing your problem on my system. Have you tried the purge and reinstall steps : https://forums.stardock.com/486022/start10-support-faq#reinstalling

Just make sure to re-download the latest version again from your account. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall using the one you just download. Reboot and retest. Report back here.

Thank you,

Do make sure you are using 1.7 as 1.6x had an issue where control panel searches were not being indexed by Windows Search and that can be painful and delayed other search results showing up.

Start10 uses the Windows Search system for almost everything (a few minor bits have to be done manually due to search limitations), so assuming the Search service is enabled and allowed to index the drive (some people disable it on SSDs incorrectly) things should be rapid.
