BUG - Clearing Windows Notifications / Windows Hibernation (?) CAN cause Taskbar Icons to Disappear

Unfortunately I can't replicate this one on-demand, but on rare occasions, clearing the Windows Notifications (Windows 10) or resuming from Windows Hibernation mode can cause 1-3 Taskbar icons from my group of 4 programs to disappear.

The tabs still appear when I open the group from one of the remaining, non-hidden programs. Un-docking one of the hidden programs from the group does not cause the Taskbar icon to reappear. The only solution is to quit the application and restart it.

Has anyone seen this before?

EDIT: Two additional notes -

1. I am using a saved group.

2. I'm not 100% sure if Hibernation itself is causing it, but I know that it happened the second I cleared notifications from my notification panel on Windows 10.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Not too sure of the issue. Could you make a video capture of the problem so that we can understand the issue better.

Thanks

Hi Basj,

I'll definitely try to capture the issue, but it may be extremely difficult since it happens so infrequently.

Are there any verbose logs produced by Groupy that I could attach once it happens again?

Thanks

Zach

Not sure about verbose logs need to talk to Dev team for those.

But I do notice when you activate the "Only Show a taskbar button for the active window in a group" option. All the taskbar button get grouped and only the active apps in that group show up in the taskbar. Once in a while, that "not active apps" icon jump out from the group and be visible. If I just switch between the tabs again. It get hidden again. Not too sure if this what you seeing.

Thank you,

Aha! That is EXACTLY what I was experiencing.

I've never had that setting enabled, so the bug is definitely temporarily triggering that setting. Its temporary state is further proven by the fact that after I restart the affected applications and re-group them, they don't only show the taskbar icon for the active window.

Really glad to have a workaround. Hopefully someone can figure out what might trigger that setting without any user interaction.

Great, as for me every time explorer.exe restart, I get that the hidden icons reappear. Not a problem if I have that option mentioned above un-selected.

Hi Basj,

Just a quick update. The issue happened again today after resuming from hibernation.

Enabling and then disabling the setting did not restore the missing taskbar icons, but turning Groupy off and on again did.

I'll continue investigating.

Hi Basj,

Unfortunately this is happening more frequently now.

Are there any logs I can provide to help the dev. team troubleshoot?

Could you please share with us a video so that we can see what the problem. And have you tried the purge and reinstall steps : https://forums.stardock.com/488142/groupy-support-faq#reinstalling

Make sure to re-download latest Groupy and install that version. Reboot and retest. Report back

Thank you,

Hi Basj,

I'll try capturing a video, but there isn't really anything to see. It behaves as if the "show only the taskbar icon of the active tab" setting is enabled, except switching tabs does not cause the taskbar icon to cycle to the active tab.

I tried the workaround of enabling and disabling Groupy today, but that didn't restore the taskbar icons.

I also noticed that if you hit alt-tab, the programs do not show. The only way I can access them when the bug occurs is through Task Manager or the Group.

Hi Basj,

I followed those steps and now I'm waiting to see if the issue reoccurs.

I'll let you know if it happens!

Hi Basj,

After following your instructions to wipe and restore Groupy to the latest version, the issue still occurs.
