New files and shortcuts overlap desktop icons

Hello,

Whenever I save a new file to the desktop, it overlaps my existing desktop icons such as This PC or Recycle Bin.

For example, I saved these two new Word files to the desktop.  Instead of going below the last icon on the desktop, they overlap the current ones.

I currently have the setting under "Sorting & organizing" set to "All new icons go to the general desktop".

This is my main display.  Using Windows 10 with Fences 3.0.9.11.

I read somewhere that uninstalling Fences and re-installing it may help, but wondering if there's another solution to this.

Thanks.

Unfortunately that did not fix the issue.

I ran the purge program, which uninstalled Fences, then did a reboot.

I then re-installed Fences using the link you provided to the current Object Desktop (the product I purchased which includes Fences).  The same problem persists, however.

When Fences is uninstalled, new files save correctly to the Desktop and do not overlap existing icons.  However, when Fences is installed, then icons for new files overlap existing icons, as show in my original post.

Also note that I do have a dual monitor setup.  This is happening on my right monitor, which is set as my main display.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

Have you tried icon size right click on desktop

and choose small size or classic icon .

That's what I use and I don't have the problem , try it .

Also in the Fences app click on sorting and organizing

and you have some sorting options that might help you.

I am having the exact same issues when new files are saved to the desktop they overlap any existing folders/icons/files that were there already. They do not overlap another file that was saved to the desktop if it has not been moved. they simply push the rest of the icons down one position. Not only that but the new files are not aligned to the typical windows grid. All the new files, unless I physically move them, are partially on my second monitor as well (see photo). It is like the fences program does not recognize the windows grid or any icons that were not assigned a spot on the desktop by fences. All the windows icons or icons/files i moved manually align to the windows grid, just not the new files/icons created by a program (saving a word document, printing to pdf, etc). I can replicate the same issue on my coworkers computer. Both of us have dual monitor setups.

Is there any resolution for this?

Hello,

Please try these Steps

1) Create a new Fence. Give it a name.

2) Set that new fence rule so that all new files go to that Fence.

Done.

From now on all the new icons/files/program move to your desktop Area will be automatically move to that New fence.

Try it and let us know.

Thanks, I know that is a solution, but I do not want to have to do this. I want certain items to go to my desktop when saved. I should not have to have a fix for something that is not working correctly with the program, especially something as straightforward as the icons falling into the windows grid. It seems this is a bug then? There is no setting or something I am missing.

Hello,

There as some known spacing issues for Win10, for multiple monitors, for non-fenced icons, if you have sorting to anything other than 'none'

basj's reply was the current work-around until it is addressed.

Same problem here. I see this thread is more than 1 year old. Do you have news about that, or we still need the workaround. Are you going to fix this?

By the way, I already have "Sort" established to "none", and the icons are overlapping....

Thanks!

Still having all the same issues as marian outlined recently and I outlined a year ago. The Jan.31, 2019 solution didn't resolve anything. I would think it would take, at most, 1 day for a programmer to resolve this issue.

Decided to try out Fences this week and this still seems to be an issue.
