Graphics error with Free Trandals in 3.2

Hi,

With 3.2 I've just started getting an error where Free Trandal units and especially shipyards don't display properly but are black and in the case of shipyards square (quite large)  when you zoom out.

I uninstalled and and reinstalled the DLC but it persisted.

I'll try rebooting in a moment as well.

Anybody else had this?

Cheers,

Jon

No Rebooted and still the same black squares. Presumably some pointer has got misdirected or a file has been produced missing some graphics elements.

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

The below link will help with making sure you have the most current video drivers as well as verifying all your Steam game files:

If it persists after, could you post a video, or screenshots, of the issue?

Hi Sean,

Many thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

It only arose after the upgrade from 3.1 to 3.2. and when I checked earlier saves, the problem was also  manifest there. Indeed I had a game as the Free Trandals which worked fine then but the shipyards now all appear distorted.

So I imagine that some graphical object has got lost or distorted in a file and the code uses a black square when it can't decide what else to do as a shipyard changes size according to the zoom.

I can't see how to post a screen shot here - have tried copying and pasting but it won't transfer from the clipboard (too big?).

I'll send in a ticket if necc but a screenshot ought to be enough to illustrate the problem.if the description isn't enough.

Cheers,

Jon

A screenshot would be most helpful.

Hi again Sean,

I'm having real trouble pasting in the image here (take the screen shot and save but when I upload image the colour is all wrong) so I will submit a ticket.

Many thanks,

Jon

Hi again,

I rolled back to 3.1 and it was fine again.

I've now read the expansion notes for 3.2 and see that :

Heroes of Star Control

  • If you don't own the either the Mercenaries or Intrigue expansion packs, you can now still get Jeff
  • Jeff is already perfect and shuns your attempts to "upgrade" him
  • Added custom Starbases for Mukay, Tywom, and Free Trandals (Mowlings starbases are unchanged)

I presume that the new  custom starbases for the Free Trandals have been messed up in some way - as I said, there's also a problem with the shipyards and in fact some of the units too which get a red square on top of them.

Cheers,

Jon

You're very welcome.

If I might nag, I had another ticket which got closed without the issue being resolved (the battle viewer doesn't work in Crusades but is fine if you disable Crusades with the command line switch.

It was JYQ-589-64445

Hello lycan371,

Like this issue, we try to get people to post in the forums as much as possible.  We use our forums in this way so as to help the most people for the longest period of time. If we work tickets for such issues, it helps just one person and just that one time.

As for the ticket you placed, the save you provided could only be loaded in Intrigue:

https://cdn.stardock.us/support/uploads/Mukay_Intr00%2003.zip

This is what happened for me when I loaded the save and the battle viewer results:

https://cdn.stardock.us/support/uploads/2018-12-03_10-14-33.mp4

If you would, and in another thread, please post the exact steps to reproduce the issue, what DLC / Expansions need to be enabled / disabled, and a save to see the issue.  If you could also post screenshots / video of what you are seeing, that would be great.

Again, thank you for this report.

Many thanks Sean,

I see that it worked perfectly okay for you. I've been having problems posting screen shots here but not in an email so am replying to your email with a save and some screen shots. The other users on the forum didn't have this problem or at least none that I know of. If anybody else would like to pitch in that they are also having this issue that would be helpful. The problem only arises with Crusade enabled (If you use the switch -DisableDCL "Crusade" then the battle viewer works fine in vanilla. )

What happens is that the image on the battle viewer is stuck - though you can resolve the battle by pressing the end key; and the battle log is completely empty. This suggests to me that while the video is being set up correctly a bad or null value is being passed to the battle log which means that it can't actually run the battle for you (but if you bypass it by pressing end then it is resolved correctly).

Anyway, if anybody else has had this problem then please do pitch in. And I'm sending a save and screen shot by email separately.

Cheers,

Jon

Sorry obviously DisableDLC (not DCL)
