BUG: cannot add explorer tab if certain file type is selected & preview pane is enabled

If Windows Explorer is in a tab & preview pane is enabled then one cannot add a tab if for example a .txt or .pdf file is selected. If however for example a .jpg file or a subfolder is selected than a tab can be added.

Hello,

I have preview pane enabled on select a pdf file. I can add another tab without a problem. Maybe its depend on what your default program for PDF. Mine is default to Adobe Acrobar reader DC. What yours?

How about .txt file; if you select a .txt file with preview on can you add a tab ? My default editor is Notepad++

How about if you select an Excel .xlsx file (I use Microsoft Office 2016)

Foxit Phantom Business is my default PDF reader.

Hello,

I can add tab via the "+" sign with the preview pane turned on, just a bit slower than without the preview pane turned on.

For me that does not work at all. Using W10 Pro v1703 64bit & Groupy 1.17 , issue was also present with W10 Pro v1607 64 bit Groupy v1.1

I just tested on a clean plain vanilla W8.1 machine; same issue. Could it be a regional setting that is interfering ? I tested on the W8.1 machine changing from dutch (belgium) to english (US) to no avail.

Can you please test on a plain vanilla machine ?

Hello,

Have a look at this thread. https://forums.stardock.com/487866

Its something similar with yours. I am guessing there is something intercepting the "control + N" keys on your system when you have pane preview turn on for excel/txt/pdf file format.

Hmmmm; on my plain vanilla W8.1 machine I continue to suffer from the same issue and there's no software installed that could intercept CTRL+N

If I press CTRL+N however that works as expected even when a txt or pdf file is selected. I think it is best to troubleshoot this on a plain vanilla VM

Any test that would be easy for us would be on Win10, and 'vanilla' would really only be applicable for someone, like yourself, where it was not working.

Vanilla, again, needs to be Windows (preferably Win10) in its absolute new state:  NO setting changes or apps installed other than Groupy.

We use the clean boot to help with PCs that already have profiles and settings changes if a clean install of the OS is not possible:

I tested on a clean W10 1803 64 bit and the issue does not show. For now I have disabled preview in explorer as I think it is causing other issues as well. If I have time I will test further with this clean W10 machine to see what piece of software causes the behavior. Still leaves me puzzled as to why the plain vanilla W8.1 shows the issue. Will investigate in coming weeks
