Multiplicity stopped working after Windows 10 - 1803 Update
My SOLUTION to this problem is included below
My Multiplicity has been working fine since I bought it, then after the last big update it kept giving me issues. Here's what was happening:
I would turn on both computers and Multiplicity would work just fine for a few minutes then when I would try to connect to the Secondary a little later, all I would get was a grey screen. When I switched to the Secondary (manually through my wired KVM switch) everything was on and working. Switch back to the Primary and the Secondary would work again for a few minutes and then....Grey Screen when I tried to connect again later. This has been driving me crazy since the update because it is making the program useless for me. I knew somehow it had to do with the update because I have had no prior problems with the software. I even restored my computer back to an old Acronis image and Multiplicity worked fine until I applied the update. First thing I read was to check Windows 10 "Privacy" settings. The new W10 privacy updates made a lot of things NOT work (webcams, microphones,..). First thing I checked was under "Privacy"-"File System" and made sure "File system access for this device is "on" and under "Allow apps to access your file system", I slide the toggle to "ON".
That didn't work and I was still guessing, so I disabled my Kaspersky antivirus altogether on both computers and checked the firewall settings after rebooting both computers. Still.....Grey Screen on Secondary!
Then believe it or not I had a dream last night (trust me there are better things to dream about then how to solve PC issues but this one has been stuck in my craw). What about the screensaver??? It did not pose an issue BEFORE the update. My screen is set to turn "off" after 5 minutes on the Secondary. My problems would happen after about 5 minutes. So this morning I did some testing.
Here's the solution that worked for me:
Right click on W10 Start, click "Power Options" from the menu, Under "Power & Sleep" make sure "Screen" and "Sleep" both say "Never".
I restored all other changes I made back to the original settings EXCEPT the "Privacy" - "File System" I left that one on.
Multiplicty is working fine now. Prior to the update, I had no issues with the screen turning off with the "5 minute" setting on the Secondary computer. Such a simple fix, just never thought of it because I was trying to look deeper within Windows for a solution.
I hope this helps someone else with this same frustration and maybe give the software team some info so they can look into this issue. Multiplicty is still the best program and saves me the hassle of using my wired KVM switch. But there are times like these that I'm still glad I have a wired KVM for backup.
Have a good day and thank you for your time.
