Start10 menu just went empty

Start10 menu just went empty

I installed Start10 trial today and it worked fine for a couple of hours. When I right clicked a program icon on the opened menu (to removed it from the recently used programs list), the whole list went empty and seems to stay that way.

The only way to add items to the menu is to pin them, which I don't want.

I used the 'Modern start menu' when I removed the item. If I change it to 'Windows 7' styled, that one is empty, too.

The 'Windows 10 style' start menu has all the items in its list but I don't want to use it because the 'modern' looks much better.

Any ideas how to restore the items?

If the problem arises due, for example, to the number of items in the menu

Then we would see it often and be able to easily reproduce it.

or if it's due to a specific configuration

Again, something we would have seen with the, litterally, millions of installs of both Start8 and Start10.

then testing in this manner will not reveal the problem.

We disagree as, obviously, something about your PC configuration is unique.

But you say that msconfig is a good tool to use for this purpose, so what is your workflow in msconfig for this?

To be honest, I would work the other way - work from the account that works enabling services and apps one at a time.  When you enable something that causes it, again, we would love to hear what that was.

We understand that this is a frustrating and time consuming way to solve your issue but we have done all the things we can to show that Start 10 did work for you

And can work for you:

As I said in my first post, I was not able to reproduce the problem in a new Windows admin account created for this purpose, and following the instructions given.

I would expect nothing but honesty. ;) Okay then, when I have time I'll work at it from that direction.

I'm having this exact same issue down to the last detail. Purge/reboot/reinstall didn't solve it. I just set up Windows 10 from scratch so I don't think it's a corruption or similar issue.

Has there been any news on this issue since this user's post?

Windows 10 Education, 1803, Build 17134.345.

Yep, latest version.

Every so often the contents of the start menu will appear, but only if I leave it for a long time, it's very odd. Like I could close and open it 50 times in a row and it will never show the icons, but if I don't click the start menu for 10 minutes or so sometimes the icons will just randomly be there, and then gone on the next click.

I use DisplayFusion as well but the problem occurs even with DisplayFusion taskbars disabled. Just like OP, the start menu is clickable, but the items just cannot be seen. Both Windows 7 and Modern style are affected, but Windows 10 style works fine.
